BBQ and Potluck

RDLL will provide burgers, polish sausage, hot dogs, water, chips, a few sides, plates and napkins etc. and our now-famous flavored shave ice. We’d like to ask families to bring something to add to the table, if you can…

We'll also happily accept the help of anyone with some grilling skills — or to help set up/clean up.

Home Run Derby

Starts at 2 pm, Rainier #2. Open to players in Rookies and above. If you have some power against batting practice pitching, come show it!

Coaches

If you can help out in any way during the day — coaching or umping the pick-up games, helping with the grilling, helping with the fences, organizing — or throwing BP pitches — for the Home Run Derby, please let us know by emailing Jim Collins: yankeejc@earthlink.net (And if you can, let Jim know how many players you expect from your teams to be joining in, and if you’re able to bring your team equipment for the pick-up games. That will help greatly with the planning.) Finally, do help spread the word and encourage your players to turn out. The more the merrier, truly!

Who was Dewey Soriano?

Dewey Soriano was general manager of the Seattle Rainiers, a Pacific Coast League team that played in Sick's Stadium at Rainier Avenue South and South McClellan Street. He was instrumental in bringing Seattle its first taste of major-league baseball in 1969 with the Seattle Pilots. As a youngster, he sold peanuts at Seattle Rainier games, and he pitched for Franklin High School, where he and Fred Hutchinson were teammates.
