Radnor Young Raiders Football and Cheer

RYR Cheer Program

The Radnor Young Raiders Cheerleading program is heading into its fourth season in 2017!!   The past four years have proven to be successful and fun for our girls on the field and in competition!!  Our Junior Varsity squad has earned their way to the Pop Warner Regional Competition four seasons in a row placing 4th in the Region and getting ever closer to earning a spot at the Pop Warner National Competition in Disney World!!  Last season we had three squads perform exciting and well executed routines at our local competition.  It was an awesome experience for our cheer families!!!

The program is open to all interested participants who are ages 5-14 years old by July 31, 2017, and meet the residency requirements. Cheerleaders will be divided into squads in mid-August after a few weeks of practice and conditioning.  Squads are based on skill level, experience, and age (per Pop Warner rules).  There are no try-outs and no cuts.  Each squad will be assigned to an age appropriate football team to cheer for and also performs a routine at the Bux-Mont Cheer Classic in early October!!   The squads are expected to cheer each week for their assigned team through mid-November.  We do travel to away games to cheer and, yes, we do cheer in the rain!

PreSeason practice will be held at Radnor High School starting on Tuesday August 1, 2017.  We will be holding practice Tuesday through Thursday every week from 5:45 to 8:00pm with a dinner/snack break from August 1 - August 24th.  The last week of August we will be holding practice Monday through Thursday from 5:45 to 8:00pm and ending with a party on the last night to celebrate!!

Girls must have 10 hours of conditioning to begin stunting and 20 hours of practice to begin sideline cheering at games. Girls are expected to miss no more than 5 days of preseason practice before August 26th.

For the squads who cheer for tackle (Mitey Mites and up) the first game will be held at the end of the 4th week of practice, either Saturday August 26th or Sunday August 27th. The schedule comes out third week of August.  Girls must have 20 hours of practice to be eligible to cheer for this game. Girls who miss this game or who are not eligible to cheer will be marked with an absence.

Starting on August 26, girls who have more than 4 unexcused absences and/or 3 excused absences from team events (practices or games) will not be eligible to participate in the competition routine. Excused absences include illness, academic school functions, and scheduled family life events.  Head Coaches must be notified of all absences in advance. The Coordinator and Coaches do have discretion with this policy as circumstances arise. This policy is not meant to eliminate people who have been dedicated to the program that get a serious illness or injury during the season.  Cheer is a unique sport in that the team cannot perform or progress without a full squad at every practice and game.  It is a huge commitment for the girls and the families so we want to be clear about the attendance policies and expectations up front.

The fee for cheerleading is $200 and covers the cost of uniform and pom-pom rental, warm-up jackets for first-time participants and a personalized bow for each girl.  The fees also help cover the cost of indoor practice space, professionally dubbed competition music, competition entry fees and safety equipment.

Cheerleaders will need to purchase their own team practice uniforms, cheer shoes, raincoat, bloomers and socks - specific ordering details will be provided at a later date.
