Are you ready to run? We are excited to invite you to participate in the 18th annual Grant County Youth Cross Country Series. The fee helps cover the cost of the series, including but not limited to insurance, a series t-shirt, and an award for all those who complete the series requirements (*see series guidelines).
Practice will be weekly on Tuesdays at Sherman Elementary.
SERIES SCHEDULE:
• Thursday, August 22nd — first race
• Thursday, August 29th — second race
• Thursday, September 5th — third race
• Thursday, September 12th — fourth race
• Thursday, September 19th— fifth race
• Thursday September 26th— championship race/awards/picnic
WEEKLY RACE SCHEDULE: All races will be held at Sherman Elementary in Sherman, KY. It is recommended that you arrive by 5:00 pm each week to check in and get your competitor number, as well as meet with your respective group leader for pre-race warm up. There may be a weekly session of a series of informative talks known as Ben's Buddies started two years ago by former GCHS runner and series participant Benjamin Spratt. Ben has gone on to college, but a current high school runner or even one of our group leaders may continue this great feature of our series.
Approximate race start times:
• 6:00 PM— Kindergarten, 1st, & 2nd grade girls and boys - 1/2 mile
• 6:15 PM— 3rd, 4th & 5th grade girls and boys - 3/4 mile
• 6:30 PM— 6th - 8th grade girls and boys - 1 mile
• 6:45 PM— Results available on site, and they will also be published on www.teamkyrunning.com. They are also sent to the Grant County News to be included in the following week's edition.
NOTE: Separate races (girls followed by boys) on September 26th on a rolling time schedule beginning at 6:00 PM. An awards ceremony will be held following the completion of the last race. A traveling trophy will be presented to the school with the highest average participation throughout the series.
