COURSE:              Recruiting, Retaining, and Developing Umpires at the Local Levels

MODE:                 Online – register at www.edmodo.com GROUP CODE: 2vwwen by October 8, 2017

 DATES:                 October 8, 2017 – November 19, 2017

INSTRUCTORS:   Central Region Umpire Advisory Committee

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

One of our biggest challenges as an organization is ensuring we have enough volunteer umpires to officiate games at the local and district levels. While volume of umpires is a significant issue, having enough quality umpires is yet another hurdle we run into throughout our organization. For these reasons, the Central Region is proud to present an online training opportunity for local league and district officials focusing on the recruitment, retention, and development of volunteer umpires for use at the local levels.

The course is a six-week class, beginning on Sunday, October 8, 2017 and concluding on November 19, 2017 using a virtual classroom online at www.edmodo.com. Led by the Central Region Umpire Advisory Committee, the course will dedicate two weeks to each topic of the class – Recruiting, Retaining, and Developing Umpires. Instruction will be framed by the following objectives:

  • Individuals will learn, share, and discuss evidence of successful strategies in each of the three topics

  • Individuals will participate in discussion and collaborative inquiry to share best practices and ideas to find a solution to three of the most challenging issues of local league administration

  • Individuals will create their own individual action plan for the 2018 season to apply solution strategies aimed at addressing the issues of recruiting, retaining, and developing umpires

For each topic, individuals participating in the class will progress towards meeting the above objectives by:

  • Reading information, thoughts, and ideas about each of the three specific topics of the course

  • Participating in discussion by reading posts and making contributions to discussion to share best practices and learn what others are doing around the region to address the issues of recruiting, retaining, and developing umpires at the local levels

  • Creating an individualized action plan to address the recruiting, retaining, and development needs of the local league and/or district  to employ for the 2018 season

Open enrollment for the course continues through October 8, 2017 online.  Individuals can enroll by following the steps listed below.  We are excited for this opportunity and look forward to working with you!
