Tryout Policy

Participation in BYSA teams will be determined on the basis of tryouts, not participation in prior seasons.

BYSA will schedule one tryout per season (two per year). The Fall season tryout will occur in mid-June, prior to the end of the school year. The Spring season try-out will occur in mid-November, prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.

In both cases, BYSA will arrange for appropriate locations. BYSA will publicize the events as explained below, and coordinate the schedule with coaches and potential coaches. In some instances, the Club may schedule time for participants to try out even if the coach has yet to be identified. In this instance, BYSA will actively solicit a coach if the interest level warrants it.

Subsequent tryouts are the responsibility of the individual coaches. The coach may schedule as many tryouts as he or she wishes prior to the required date for turning in the completed roster, or until the roster is filled.

All tryouts will be publicized in the Brattleboro Reformer at least two weeks in advance and on the Club’s website and Facebook account. There are no private tryouts allowed, although if the first practices are publicized as outlined above, and there are roster openings, that is an acceptable alternative. Coming to a try-out does not guarantee that a team will be viable, or that any given individual will make a team. Attending at least one publicized tryout, however, is a requirement of participation on a Club team.
