Update from FNLLGS President - Vic Langford

Hello everyone,

First of all, I hope and trust you and your family are staying safe and healthy.  As I give you an update on our softball program it is within the bigger picture that we're all dealing with. My last email to you was on March 12th when we suspended softball activities until April 6th.  How things have changed in just a few weeks!  It won't be a surprise that we are now postponing softball activities until mid-June, in line with the school closures in Fremont. We are treating this as a postponement (some think of it as an extended rain delay!) rather than a cancellation, and intend to resume activities as soon as feasible.  We're planning on providing a program that runs during the Summer and Fall instead.  As we get nearer that date, we'll decide the format of the program, but I know we'll start off with a fun family event.  If you have any ideas, we'd love to hear them.

In the meantime, while you're sheltering in place, we recommend some backyard and in-house activities to keep you and your daughters interested, fit, and ready to go. Here are some videos that Little League has provided:

1.  Backyard tips

2.  Video from Jennie Finch, former pitcher for the USA softball team, with ideas for what players can do.

3.  General softball drills.

4.  Softball videos to watch in doors.

I wouldn't suggest using real softballs for the drills, wiffle balls would be ideal, but you can also use ping pong balls or even rolled up newspaper.  If you don't have a bat, any stick will do, or even an umbrella held upside down.  The important thing is to practice technique.

If you send me and Shauna Rae ([email protected]) photos and videos of your daughter and family doing any of the above, we'd love to put together albums to share with others via our web site and social media sites.

Finally, just to let you know we're also reviewing our financials during the coming week and I'll be sending you a summary of where things stand for our league as soon as I have it.

If you have any questions, comments, or ideas on anything we're doing during this time please let me know.  Check our web site and media feeds for new information, and I'd appreciate it if you would share the above information with your daughters.

Stay well,

Vic
