Update from the Vic Langford, FNLLGS President

Hi everyone,

I hope all is well with you and your family and that you are in good health.  I appreciate your patience as we navigate these challenging times. We have been without softball for just over two months, since early March. I know for many of you, myself included, that it’s tough not being able to watch your girls having fun with their friends, playing softball, spending time at the ball field, and enjoying the snack shack.

When I last communicated with you we had postponed our Spring Season (a long “rain delay”) and were hoping to resume in early June.  I don’t think that will now be possible.  The situation continues to evolve and often changes daily.  We do know that schools are out until the next school year but we don’t know when we’ll be allowed access to school property and our field.  We also know that competitive team sports aren’t allowed until Phase 3 of the Governor’s plan, and even then only with social distancing and other restrictions.  So at this time we have decided:

We are canceling plans to schedule competitive games against other leagues for the remainder of 2020.

We hope to be able to provide a fun community program for all girls that wish to participate as soon as we are able.  It won’t be restricted to just those of you that signed up for the Spring.  Based on our current knowledge such a program will involve smaller groups and non-contact activities.  We are taking the position that this should be a community service and as such we will offer it free of charge.  If regulations relax further, and we can do it in a safe environment, then we will consider scheduling local games later in the fall.

We are issuing you a credit for the fees you paid, less the cost of the shirts.  We are soaking the other expenditures we have already made.  We would like to roll those credits to Spring 2021.  However, if your daughter is aging out and won’t be able to play next Spring, let me know and we will refund the credit to you.  We will arrange for the shirts to be made available as soon as we get them – they’ll be quite a souvenir!

We also recognize that some families have been hit economically by the current situation.  If you need us to refund the credit to you now please let us know.  We are also prepared to issue the full amount of the fees if your circumstances require it.  Please also be aware that Little League operates on the principal that no-one will be turned away for financial reasons.  We have confidential scholarships available for those girls that require it next Spring – I administer those personally.

We are attending webinars and receiving materials that help us plan a return to the fields when we are allowed.  If you are interested in knowing the possibilities, or you have ideas you’d like to share, please let me know.

Sincerely

Vic Langford
