Founded in 1973, the Metuchen Grapplers is a long‑standing, non-profit youth wrestling program based in Metuchen, New Jersey, dedicated to serving boys and girls in grades K through 8th. Over the decades, our club has become a pillar in the community—providing young athletes with a place to learn the sport, grow in confidence, and cultivate lifelong values.
Our Mission & Philosophy
At the heart of the Grapplers is the belief that wrestling is not just about winning on the mat, but about building character off it. We are committed to fostering:
-Sportsmanship & Respect
-Discipline & Work Ethic
-Resilience & Mental Toughness
-Teamwork & Supportive Community
We welcome wrestlers at all skill levels, from absolute beginners to youth with competition experience.
League & Competition
Our program is currently active in the Mid‑Jersey Youth Wrestling League (for grades 3–6). We also host our own events—such as the Metuchen Grapplers Novice Tournament, typically held at Metuchen High School. All wrestlers will have access to at least two tournaments throughout the season.
Additionally, in the summer (if time permits) we run a wrestling camp at Metuchen High School focused on drills, conditioning, technique, live wrestling, plus coaching on nutrition, sportsmanship, and mental toughness.
Practice Locations
Our regular practice sessions are held in the Field House at St. Joseph's High School (entrance behind the track). Our home matches are also at St. Joe's in the gym.
Community & Impact
As one of the older youth sports programs in Metuchen, the Grapplers have helped hundreds of children grow physically, mentally, and socially. We promote inclusion, confidence, and perseverance, and many of our alumni continue wrestling into middle school, high school, and beyond—or carry forward the lessons they learned into other areas of life.
We also maintain a charitable status for fundraising and community support.
