Reef Sharks Coach Heather Brady up for LLS Woman of the Year!

Dear Sharks,

My name is Heather Brady and I coached the U16 Reefs team this past winter! I have been given an amazing opportunity and I am reaching out to tell you more about it and why I got involved.

I am honored to announce that I have accepted a nomination to run for the 2018 Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Woman of the Year campaign.

I was introduced to LLS when one of my best friends, Peter Conlon, was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma when he was just eighteen years old.  I remember crying, praying and hoping that my friend would be cured of this awful disease. Bravely, Peter underwent years of treatment and ultimately went into remission. He lived a normal, healthy life until the summer of 2017 when he received the devastating news that his cancer had returned. Peter remained positive and following months of intense treatment, I am happy to share that he is back in remission, and is again living a healthy life!  He is one of the strongest people I know and I will always consider him one of my heroes.  I never want another person to have to endure what Peter has experienced.  For that reason, I have accepted this nomination on his behalf.

I consider it a privilege to raise funds and awareness for such an amazing cause. LLS has made tremendous strides in the fight against blood cancer since its founding in 1949, investing more than $1.2 billion in treatments specifically targeting leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. To put it in perspective, approximately every 3 minutes one person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer.

During the Man & Woman of the Year campaign, candidates from around the state are competing to raise funds for blood cancer research.  The titles of 2018 Man & Woman of the Year will be awarded to the man and woman who raise the most money during the 10 week period from March 29th  through June 8th , 2018.

My campaign to be crowned the “Woman of the Year” is not about me, it is all about Peter and every other person who has been affected by blood cancer. Every dollar I raise is a dollar to help find the cure. Your support will help move us closer to the ultimate objective of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: a world without blood cancers!

I am personally asking you to join me in this ambitious campaign. I have until June 8, 2018 to reach my goal of $50,000. If you want to join me in being a part of this important effort, you can go to my personal fundraising website at http://pages.mwoy.org/de/delaware18/hbrady to make an online contribution.  You can also visit my website for campaign updates and upcoming events. If you prefer to send a check please email me directly for instructions.

It is only with your help that I can reach my goal. Please encourage your friends and family to support my campaign as well.

Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions. I would love to share more information with you about this great cause.

Thank you!

Heather Brady
