Huntington Valley Little League (HVLL)

Huntington Valley Little League is a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to provide a safe, instructional, and fun environment for the children of Huntington Beach, California.  Chartered under the umbrella of Little League International, Inc., and Little League District 62 of Southern California, we share a mission to "promote, develop, supervise, and voluntarily assist in all lawful ways, the interest of those who will participate in Little League Baseball."

Our non-profit organization operates as an all-volunteer program.  As such, we rely on the support of our network of families and local businesses, as well as corporate and community sponsors.

HVLL offers the following baseball programs:

Upper/Lower Tee-Ball Divisions:
League Ages 4-6.The Tee-Ball divisions promote non-competitive, instructional baseball and should be viewed as such by managers, coaches, parents, and fans. The emphasis is on having fun and developing basic skills for all players. Weekly games include three innings of “baseball” in which all players have a turn to bat and run the bases. Neither score nor standings are recorded, and there are no playoffs. Lower Tee-Ball players will hit off a stationary tee for the entire season, while Upper Tee-Ball players will hit off a stationary tee for the first half of the season and face live pitching from coaches during the second half.

Farm Division:
League Ages 6-8*.The Farm division promotes non-competitive, instructional baseball and should be viewed as such by managers, coaches, parents, and fans. The emphasis is on having fun and continuing skill development for all players. Neither score nor standings are recorded, and there are no playoffs. During the first half of the season, batters will hit off a pitching machine, and face live pitching from coaches during the second half.

Minor C:
Minor C includes League Ages 7-9*. While the Minor C division is primarily instructional baseball and continuing skill development for all players, “friendly” competition is encouraged in the context of teaching the game. This level is also a transitional division of sorts in that batters will face live pitching from fellow players. Scores and standings are also recorded and the top two teams with play in a Championship game.

Minor B:
Minor B includes League Ages 8-10*. The playing rules for the Minor B division conform to the annual “Official Regulation and Playing Rules” for Little League Baseball with some modifications or additions as documented in the HVLL Local Rules. The top two teams will move on to the District 62 Tournament of Champions.All-Star teams will also be selected to participate in the All-Stars Tournament.

Minor A:
Minor A includes League Ages 9-11*. The playing rules for the Minor A division conform to the annual “Official Regulation and Playing Rules” for Little League Baseball with some modifications or additions as documented in the HVLL Local Rules. The top two teams will move on to the District 62 Tournament of Champions.  All-Star teams will also be selected to participate in the All-Stars Tournament.

Majors:

Spring Season

HVLL offers programs during the Spring Season for players who are League Age 4-14.  Registration typically begins in mid-October and ends at the beginning of December.  Important information and dates:

  • Document Checks are held on a variety of dates in early November/December to verify player age and residency within HVLL's boundaries.
  • Tryouts/Player Evaluations are conducted each year at the beginning of January.  All players registered in the Minor C division and above must participate in tryouts each year.
  • The Player Draft occurs in mid-January and teams are announced shortly thereafter.
  • The Opening Day Celebration takes place in mid-to-late February.
  • Playoffs for Minor C and above begin at the end of May and continue into early June.
  • D62 Tournament of Champions (TOC) includes the top two teams in each division (Minor C and above) and takes place in early June.
  • D62 All-Stars Tournament includes HVLL teams representing the 11/12, 10/11, 9/10 and 8/9 (Super Stars) age groups and begins in mid-to-end of June.

Fall Ball

HVLL offers Fall Ball for players who are League Age 4-12 and affords a more relaxed atmosphere focusing on the fundamentals of baseball -- rather than on scores and team standings. Registration begins in mid-May and goes through early August.  The season begins in early-September and wraps up before Thanksgiving.  Important information:

  • One game per week for 10 weeks, played on Sundays.
  • Practices are usually conducted 1-2 times per week.
  • Players typically play in the division above the one they played in spring.  However, a player’s Fall Ball division will not dictate which division they play in the following spring, as placement is determined by the draft for divisions Minor C-Majors.
  • Players are not evaluated for Fall Ball so there are no tryouts.
  • Registration fees for Fall Ball include a team shirt and hat.

It's more than just a game

We believe that Little League® is so much more than teaching kids the fundamentals of baseball. It also provides a valuable framework for teaching kids about team work, sportsmanship, how to respond to failure, how to win graciously - and perhaps most importantly - how to grow up to be responsible and thoughtful adults in their community.
