Umpire Clinic

Palo Verde Families, please read this important request from one of our board members

My name is Cruz Leyva and I am a board member with the role of Umpire in Chief.

As you all know, we need umpires to play a game and the home team is responsible for providing umpires. This is a requirement for all levels, from Minors and above. We do not have district umpires so that means that this job is left up to the league and US, the volunteers.  This job is very important.  If we do not have umpires we will be forced to cancel of forfeit our game.

Being an umpire is a hard,  thankless job. Coaches, players, and spectators will always be upset with a call made on the field. The more training an umpire has the better they will be and it will reduce the frustrations of coaches, players, and spectators. It will also help you as an umpire to be more confident on the field and and more willing to make that tough call without worry of what little Johnny's dad in the bleachers is going to say.

There is an umpire clinic on Saturday,  the 17th of February,  that is free of charge and open to anyone who would like to attend – including family, friends and co-workers who do not have players in the league.  Lunch will be provided.  I would highly recommend going if you have any interest in being an umpire this year or if you are a coach. Even if you aren't interested, you may change your mind after getting some training. I have attached a copy of the flyer for the clinic with all of the information on it.

This year, we are pushing hard to ask Major and Junior players to also participate and umpire MINOR games.  It is a great experience and may also open the door to a career in this field of baseball.  They may go on to umpire local leagues, travel ball. high school, college and even MLB!!!  They would need to attend this training as well.

We all have busy schedules.  Many of our parents are full time employees or single parent households. Many people find it hard to find the time to volunteer or are scared or shy to step up. We get it!!  However this  help is greatly NEEDED but most of all appreciated and we couldn't do it without any of you!!

We want EVERYONE to volunteer!  Even if it's only for one game.  That is one game that one of our regulars get to sit back and just enjoy their son or daughter playing the game.

Please think it over. Let's get some new faces out there and make this league even stronger. PVLL is one great, big family. Let's help each other out.

Please RSVP if you do plan on attending.  Information is attached.

Thank you for your time.
