Let’s Play Ball!!!!!
Welcome to the New Carlisle Baseball and Softball Association (NCBSA). Please take a few minutes and review the information in this packet. We know some of you are new to the organization, while others are veterans, but have tried to provide needed information to help cut down on confusion as the season gets under way. We hope you have a fun and successful 2018 season.
NCBSA Clothing
Don’t forget to check out the great NCBSA gear available on our website. You can get everything from t-shirts and sweatshirts to shorts and more. New items and designs added all the time. Each order is shipped right to your door through Dick’s Sporting Goods and a percent of each sale comes back to NCBSA!
Uniforms
We are going with Berner’s screen printing in Springfield for our uniform needs this year. Uniform ordering can get very tricky……so please make sure you have filled out the appropriate size for your child. The season becomes very hectic once it begins, so we will not be re-ordering uniforms unless we have made an error.We are striving to order uniforms the week after the team selection is done.
Volunteering
The NCBSA is a volunteer organization, and we are always looking for help! We have several spots that have not been filled for many seasons so please if you have the time come help! The more people we have the better of an organization we become. Some spots we have open do not take much time at all. You can ask any Board Member about it and I’m sure we can find something available for you. Also, again this year all teams will be required to volunteer a minimum of 6hrs in the concession stand. The time can be broken up as needed and done by any parent, family member or coach (18yrs or older) associated with your child’s team. Remember coaches are already volunteering their time to teach our children a great sport so this would be a good time for others to step up and show their support.
Fundraising
We know fundraising is every parent’s favorite thing (LOL)…. but it is necessary. One fundraiser we will be doing again is a sign-up raffle, which each child that signs up receives 2 raffles tickets. Depending on the amount of kids that sign up there will be a $500 visa card winner. Winner will be drawn on Opening Day ceremony. Our dugouts, concession stand, equipment and fields are in desperate need of “revival” and we cannot do this without your help. If every parent could donate 1 hour during the season to the ball fields just doing little things, that it’s self would help tremendously. Be sure to check our board in front of the concession stand for new things going on during our season. The money you pay for registration is just enough to cover uniforms, trophies, basic field and park up keep. It’s amazing how much all that costs! We would love to end the season with enough money for us to do a major project each year! We will also be holding 50/50 raffles throughout the year. One of our goals is to collect enough money to get more picnic tables and retop the fields.
Team Selection
Team Selection is standard in our organization and the method is dictated by each leagues rule. Excluding the developmental leagues of Little Hitters and T-Ball, all other teams are selected by a “draft” concept. This means we try to equal the playing ability of each team so all the kids have an enjoyable experience. The “draft” helps ensure this, which is why in some instances requests for teammates and/or coaches cannot be met.
Little Hitters and T-ball team selection is done by trying to equal each group/team with boys and girls, then ages, then requests. We will do our best to provide your child a great team!
Coach Selection
Coach Selection is at the decision of the NCBSA Board and the appropriate League Reps. If you are interested in coaching, please fill-out the Coaching Forms available from any Board Member as well as at any sign-up location and on the website. The Coaching Form must be filled out even if you are a returning coach. Also, each coach must by law now take a concussion test online. It can be found at www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training. There is also a link to the site on the NCBSA website. Please turn in the certificate to the secretary’s box in the concession stand or to any board member.
Please remember even if you can’t participate in an official manner, many coaches need assistance in dug-out, bases, scorebook keeping and an extra hand at practices. This is especially needed for the Little Hitter and T-Ball leagues, we all know how hard it is to keep a 5yr old’s attention!
Practices
You should receive a call from your child’s coach the around the middle of March. Practices will start the week of March 27th. Some coaches may start a week later due to Spring Break. Generally, each team is scheduled for 2 weekly practices on their appropriate field. One during the week and one on Saturday. Many coaches choose to add practices at other locations and they will notify you directly. Kids should come to practices ready to play ball in appropriate clothes and cleats. Practice schedules are posted on the website (not facebook) in “Coaches Corner”. If practice is canceled due to field issues we will post it on facebook. Any other cancellations will be at the coach’s discretion. Please contact your coach if you have questions about whether your team is holding practice.
Games
Opening Day is scheduled for the first Saturday in May (May 5th). We do an Opening Day Parade at 8:30am where the teams meet at the Methodist Church on Main St (between 8:00am-8:15am) and walk down the road to the ballpark where we have a great Opening Day Ceremony! Then it’s PLAY BALL!!! Jr. Girls & Sr. Boys opening day is usually the following Saturday after opening day for NCBSA, depending on high school ball.
After that day, we are full steam ahead for the season. We will be scheduling a few games with another local league. These games will be planned so that you have as much notice as possible. Please remember in our park or their park, we as a community are there to represent NCBSA and to let the kids have a great experience. Direction to other parks can be found on the NCBSA website.
Rain-Outs
All rain-outs are at the discretion of the Umpire and NCBSA Board. We will attempt to get these re-scheduled quickly. Majority of time the rain-out notification will be on tshq.bluesomrero.com/ncbsa or the Facebook page @ www.facebook.com/ncbsapage
Sportsmanship
NCBSA has a code conduct that every parent must agree to for their child to participate. Good Sportsmanship is expected from all spectators, players, and coaches. Please cheer your team on by only positive encouragement and/or remarks. Winning the game is every team’s goal, but winning the game should not be their only goal. Certainly, something positive happens during every game, please try and focus on these positive aspects.
Negative or abusive comments, activities, or profane language will not be tolerated. The Umpires and Board Members have the authority to eject anyone from a game or a park. Any kind of bullying or social media bashing will not be tolerated with NCBSA. If this happens it could lead to a player being suspended. Terms of suspension will be a board decision.
These suspensions or ejections could mean anywhere from the next game, the rest of the season, or a lifetime and decided by NCBSA board members. Please show respect to the Umpires by letting them make the calls. If you have a problem or complaint PLEASE find a board member to handle this for you, instead of complaining to a VOLUNTEER coach or an Umpire. HEAD COACH’s/ Board Members are the ONLY person permitted to question an Umpire.
