It’s becoming harder and harder to find umpires for games these days. As older umpires start to retire, there aren’t as many young people coming up behind them to fill the void.
District 16 is proactively partnering with the Atlantic County Umpires Association to try and make a change.
The district will be offer training for all interested youth umpires.
- Mechanics Clinic (mandatory to attend to become a youth umpire): Led by ACUA and D16 staff, this clinic goes over basic umpire mechanics and is tailored for 60 ft diamond. Dates and time TBA.
- Rules Clinic: Led by the District, this clinic discusses the rules of Little League. The initial classes will be conducted via Zoom. We will discuss both baseball and softball. Rule’s support will also be provided by ACUA and the district staff.
- In addition, during the season youth umpires can request an umpire mentor to be present at a game for additional training.
