Internationals SC Teams Experience Success in Greer, SC

Internationals Soccer Club had two teams competing this past weekend in the ECNL National Event in Greer, SC.  ISC's U13 and U14 ECNL teams played some of the best teams in the country and came away with some strong performances.

ISC U13 ECNL played Gwinnett Soccer Academy (GSA) out of Georgia and on a hot afternoon created some great opportunities in the attack.  As the game went on, the chances for both teams started to even out and although ISC were able to come back from trailing by one goal at halftime, a late goal from GSA resulted in a close loss.  On day two of the event ISC faced Tophat Soccer Club, also out of Georgia, and in a fast and physical game came away with a close 2-0 loss.  Both teams played some very good soccer with chances coming at either end.  Although the result did not go ISC's way, the overall performance against such a strong opponent was a great test for the U13 group.  On the last day ISC was able to create and finish some wonderful soccer opportunities.  Facing Classics Elite Soccer Academy from South Carolina, ISC took a lead in the first half and finished with three additional goals in the second half to win 4-1.

"The group really showed its strength this weekend playing against some of the best teams in the U13 ECNL age group,” said assistant coaching director Mark Platts. “We were able to play our style of soccer, compete with the best and come away with strong performances in each of the three games.”

ISC U14 ECNL started out its weekend against South Carolina United, who had not lost a game all year in its conference schedule.  On a wet and fast soccer field, ISC found its feet early and scored two well-deserved goals before halftime.  The team's work rate in the second half allowed the two-goal lead to be enough to win the game, a result that the entire team showed great character and strength to attain.  On day two ISC played a strong and fast Concordia Fire Premier team from Georgia.  In a close game that saw few chances for either team a goal just before halftime was enough for the Georgia side to take the win.  On day three ISC came up against the number one team in the country in PDA out of New Jersey.  ISC started the game on a high, scoring early against the unbeaten PDA team and then created several chances soon after.  Two goals before halftime gave PDA a slim lead and with a second half goal handed ISC a 3-1 loss.

"The final game was a great representation of who we were this weekend,” Platts added. “Playing against a very good PDA team we came out and took the game to them, scoring and creating chances in both halves of the game.  The players worked very hard in all three games this weekend and although the team suffered two losses, each of the three performances has allowed the players to grow individually, and showed how well the team can play collectively against such strong opponents."
