For the first time ever, MCLL has won a state championship!

 

On Friday, the Lower County 9-11 year old all star team beat DC's Northwest Little League to take home the Maryland State Banner. Although they defeated the other teams in D2 at the district tournament in three games, a second round loss in the state tournament meant MOCOLOCO (MOntgomery COunty LOwer COunty) had a long road to make and then win the championship. 

 

Fortunately for them, the team had talented pitching depth and the team was able to climb their way back.

Here's how MOCOLOCO did it:

 

On Saturday, 7/13, they beat Hughesville 10-3.

On Sunday, 7/14, they lost to Fruitland 5-4. 

On Monday, 7/15, they beat Rising Sun 11-0.

On Tuesday, 7/16, they beat Hagerstown Valley 13-0. 

On Wednesday's rematch in the consolation final, they one-hit Fruitland, 3-0. 

On Thursday, in the championship, they beat DC Northwest, 6-3, forcing an elimination "if" game.

On Friday, MOCOLOCO outlasted Northwest, 9-8, with a walk off in the bottom of the 8th inning:

 

That's seven games in seven days of 100* weather, and an overall record of 9-1 in tournament play. MOCOLOCO outscored their opponents 92-25 (16 earned), and its pitchers struck out 79 in 55 innings pitched. Its batters had a team .389 average and a .522 OBP, with a 62/40 BB/K ratio. 

 

Next up for MOCOLOCO 9-11 team is the "New England & Mid-Atlantic State Champions Invitational," where they will face state champs from MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, DE, NH, and VT. This tournament begins 7/30/19 in Beverly, Massachusetts, and runs until 8/4.
