Recreation FAQS

Will I be placed on my Spring 2018 team?

Yes, there is an opportunity in the registration process to indicate that you are a returning player, and to request to return to your previous team. In order secure your spot on that team, you must register by the Guaranteed Placement Deadline of July 9, 2018. If your previous team chooses not to return, we will do our best to place any returning players from that team together.

If you do not wish to return to your previous team, you can also select that option in the registration process. If you are registering for the entire year, and you do not wish to return to your Fall team in the Spring, please email your area administrator.

How much is Recreation Soccer?

The Recreation Club Fee varies by age group and date registered. For more information visit our Club Fee page

When does the season start?

Practice for U7-U18 teams begin the week of August 13. Games (and U5/U6) start the weekend of August 25.

You should receive your practice schedule from your coach the week of August 6.

For a complete list of Fall 2018 important dates visit our Important Dates page.

When do I purchase my uniform?

• All U5-U12 Recreational players must purchase two NCFC Youth Adidas jerseys.
• Every two years is a "purchase year" for NCFC Youth, Recreational players can wear the same uniform two years in a row. All new players must purchase the NCFC Youth if they did not play in the Fall. These NCFC Youth Recreation jerseys will be used until Spring of 2019.
• U13-U19 Recreational team uniforms are determined by their coach, and teams are encouraged to purchase the Adidas uniform through SOCCER.com.

For more information visit our Uniform page

What equipment do I need to play?

• All players need shin guards, a water bottle, and their own soccer ball.
• All players must wear the appropriate uniform for games. For more information about uniforms visit our Uniform page
• Cleats are highly recommended for all age groups, but players can wear athletic shoes (especially U5-U6). Almost all Recreational players wear cleats.
• We highly recommend all Recreational players wear Adidas navy socks and shorts for games.

When and where are my practices?

• You should receive your practice schedule from your coach the week of August 6. Since our coaches are volunteers, practices usually start anywhere from 4-6pm.
• Practices will be held at a field near your home or school address.
• U5-U6 does not have a weekday practice, instead they have a 30-minute practice before each game on the weekend.
• U7-U19 will have one weekday practice.

When & where are my games?

• U5-U14 teams typically play games Saturday mornings and early afternoons. Sometimes games are scheduled for early Sunday afternoons.
• U5-U6 players play at centrally located areas: Raleigh teams play at WRAL Soccer Park or the turf field at Triangle Towne Center, Cary teams play at Davis Drive Park, Wake Forest teams play at Smith Creek Park, and Garner teams play at Centennial Park. Our Holly Springs/ Fuquay-Varina and Chapel Hill/ Durham programs locations will be released soon.
• U15-U19 teams play Sundays.
• Coaches should distribute the game schedule no later than the 3rd week of February.
• Games begin the weekend of August 25.
• Games will be held at a field in the area you selected during registration (near your home or school address).

How is the U5-U6 program different than the other age groups?

NCFC Youth U5-U6 program is organized in a different manner than other age groups due to the age and ability level of the youngest players.

• U5-U6 teams have 1 event on the weekend and do not practice during the week.
*We offer free U5-U6 Player Clinics throughout the season.
• This event is a practice and game combination, generally all Saturdays.
• The event starts at the time listed on the schedule. The event is a 30-minute practice, followed by a 5-minute break, then a 32-minute game. The 32-minute game is broken into four, 8-minute quarters.
• The volunteer coaches run the practice, and both head coaches act as the referees during the game.
• U5-U6 plays 4v4 with no goalies.
• For more rules please see NCFC Youth Recreation Rules of Play

What happens if I am not placed on a team?

We will fully refund players not placed on a team. Players who register after the Guaranteed Placement Deadline (July 9) are labeled as "waitlist", however, almost all "waitlisted" players are placed on a team before the first practice.

Which is the "home" team and what color does the "home" team wear?

The team listed first on the schedule is the home team.

• U5-U12: The home jersey is navy, and the away jersey is red.
• U13-U19: Will wear the jersey selected by their coach. If there is a conflict, the home team changes jerseys. NCFC Youth recommends U13-U19 teams always have a white shirt to change into in case a conflict in color arises.
