FC Columbia County (FCCC) was initially created with the goal of bringing competitive level, year-round soccer to the communities within its borders. It was born from a recognition that there were, historically, two perceived issues with soccer in Scappoose, St Helens, Rainier, Vernonia, and Clatskanie. In 2015 we merged to acquire St Helens Youth Soccer Assocaition and as a result offered a recreational branch to our club all under one roof. The first issue was that there was no viable options for kids to play soccer year round locally. Traditional recreational soccer ran from late-August to the first week of November, giving kids ten weeks to practice and play before taking an eight month hiatus from an organized soccer club. There was a spring season available to some, but it was on an individual coach-to-coach basis which meant most kids, and especially the younger ones didn’t have the opportunity to play. The second issue was that a good portion of the soccer talent we had was being developed by other clubs in Portland, at a considerable cost to the parents and, due to distance, was logistically difficult to attend. Kids had no option here locally to play at any level higher than recreational, unless their parents could afford the time and money needed to go elsewhere. FC Columbia County fills the gap, and provides a much needed opportunity for kids to develop soccer skills year-round by bringing competitive and recreational level soccer, with nationally licensed coaches to Columbia County. Our goal will always be to provide those kids that want it, a year round soccer experience so that they can successfully filter into the high school programs. By receiving enhanced soccer locally, we will raise the level of soccer for everyone within the community, and consequently make our high school programs more successful in the long term.
