Volunteer Program Details

Volunteer Program - Spring 2024
Brandywine Little League is run entirely by unpaid volunteers.  While we continue to see record numbers of families attending games, we’ve seen a big drop-off in the number of parents/guardians helping with field maintenance days, concession stand shifts, and field setup/cleanup.  Our league can only be successful with the help of the entire community chipping in.

The registration costs will now include a $75 fee per household.  This fee is being collected to motivate those families on the sidelines to join us, as well as to pay youth volunteers if we have a shortage of people needed to run our facilities.

Program Details

Each Household (Account) on SportsConnect (the BLL website for registration, news, etc) will have a $75 Volunteer Charge added on to registration fee for the divisions.  If you have more than 1 player registering for Spring 2024, please be sure to register both players under the same SportsConnect account, to avoid being charged multiple Volunteer Fees.

This fee will be refunded if your family completes 6 volunteer hours by the completion of the Spring 2024 season.  Volunteer hours can be earned by completing shifts in our concession stands, participation in field maintenance days pre-season, and other activities designated by the league.

Each family’s hours will be tracked by the Directors of our Concessions and Field Maintenance.  If your volunteer hours reach or exceed the 6 required hours by the Spring season’s end, the $75 fee will be refunded to the credit card used in registration.  Sign-In at Concession is how hours are tracked.

Manager Exemption

The Board acknowledges that there are some adults who go above and beyond in their time to Brandywine Little League.  While we do not plan to carry over excess hours volunteered, we will be doing some special promotions and awards for our top volunteers.

Additionally, there is a shortage of parents who volunteer to be the Head Coach (Manager) of a Spring Little League team.  To help acknowledge the work it takes to be the lead adult coach of the team, all parents who volunteer, are selected, and manage a team will have their 6 hour requirement waived.

Please note that only the Manager of each team will receive this waiver of hours.  At the conclusion of the season, the Manager will be refunded the $75 fee (regardless of any additional hours volunteered).

Expectations of All Families to their Team

We know that if all 400 families in BLL complete their 6 hours, this league should run very smoothly.  However, Managers are still asked to ensure that their families participate in other activities to support the games throughout the season.  Coaches will likely be asked for help with setting up fields, raking fields after games practices, serving as base umpires, and for ensuring that both teams have concession stand help in each game (Majors, AAA and AA teams only).

If you have completed your 6 hours, but the team still has required jobs, we hope and expect that each family will continue offering their time for the good of the team.
