A Division / Modified Coach Pitch
This is a transitional division in which players begin pitching to opposing hitters, and at-bats are completed by coach pitch when necessary. The Single A Division plays a full baseball game - outs are recorded and a score is kept, but there are no standings kept or champion crowned at the end of the season. This ensures that all players on a team have equal opportunity to develop at every position, as coaches have no incentive to consistently place stronger players at positions of importance. Kids will pitch to a batter until either an out is recorded, or they throw four balls, at which point a coach will come in to complete the at bat with either a ball in play or strikeout. That’s right, no walks! A limit of 4 runs per inning is applied to minimize lopsided scores, keep games moving, and maximize opportunities for players to try their hand at various positions. This division is great for players who are ready to play a more organized, “real” baseball game with a winner and loser, but are not quite ready for the season long competition of our AA division. Single A games are umpired by the coaches.
