Letter from NPP President

Hello Panther Nation,

It has been a while since we have all been together. Never in my life would I have imagined being in a world without spring flag or year-round cheer going on. I can’t begin to describe how much I miss all the kids and look forward to getting back to some type of normalcy.

I have been asked numerous times if we are having a season in the fall. The North Pinellas Panthers (NPP) along with The Foundation for Youth Development (FYD), as well as the National Office of Pop Warner are planning on having our 2020 Football and Cheer season start on August 1st. With that being said, I can tell you that it will be an atypical season. Precautions and procedures will be in place to help mitigate the risks and to keep our kids and spectators as safe as possible. We have been working closely with the City of Oldsmar and FYD on what our season would look like and have some information for you.

Youth sports are not allowed to resume until the State of Florida is in Phase 3 of their reopening plan. When the state reaches Phase 3, there will be additional restrictions set forth for the parks and youth sports to which we must adhere. The City and FYD have asked our Board to develop a reopening plan for the Panthers to present to both entities. Our NPP Board has set up a committee to develop some new protocols to present to the Board for approval and will then be shared with the City of Oldsmar, FYD, and your families.

Our task list includes the following: how to reduce attendance on game days and practices, hand sanitizer stations, attire for volunteers, temperature checks prior to practice and games, and gym procedures for cheer to name a few. This list can be flexible depending on our State Guidelines on August 1st. Our overall goal is to provide an environment that you, the City of Oldsmar and Pop Warner are comfortable and confident in so we can move forward safely and get back to something that we feel is necessary for our kids and parents.

With that said, here is some Panther News:

Our Football Head Coach Applications have all been submitted and we plan to announce our Coaches for 2020 in a week. Our Cheer Head Coach Applications are being accepted now and will remain open for two weeks. After two weeks, we will move to name our Cheer Head Coaches for 2020.

Unfortunately, we are not able to do live registrations currently. So, we are opening our Online Registration this weekend. Please visit our NPP Website at: Once you are on the site, go to Registration Info, select Register Now, then you will be connected to Sports Connect to Sign in or Create an Account. Please select Check as Payment Method. (You will be able to pay with a credit card in the future.) Then, complete your Registration. We are not asking for Registration deposits or payments, at this time. Our goal is to get our Teams set up, paperwork in, and Coaches in touch with their Players. All payments will be collected in the future. We understand the need for payment options, and we are working on those too. We will release those when we get closer to the 2020 NPP Season. In addition, we will continue with our Sibling Discount for this year, which will be applied at the time of payment.

This has been a trying time for all. I know I speak for the rest of the Board when I say we are looking forward to Our Panther Family being together again.

Stay safe and healthy.

Sean Somerfield
