Carly comes to EastSide Timbers from England where she was a Physical Education teacher for 10 years. She has always loved the game of soccer and played for Barking Ladies FC, a senior women's side that has competed at Step 2 of English Women's Soccer for 10 years. Carly's leadership skills were recognized in 2013 when the club offered her a player/coach role for the 2013-14 season. This was a position she relished and lead the team to the County Cup Finals for the first time in a decade. After this, Carly was asked to join CK Basildon FC, which plays in the Premier League. After changing playing position she played for one year but then had to retire due to injury.
Carly's ultimate dream was always to be able to coach in the US. After her soccer career in England ended, she focused on coaching and made the move to Portland. Prior to coming to Portland, Carly coached at the prestigious Elite Soccer camps in Boston for three years then for the No Tippy Tappy organization in Guelph and Rockwood, Canada. Carly is also one of the Assistant Coaches and the Community Youth Development Coach for the Portland Thorns.
