Ways to Serve


Volunteers may serve in the following roles.  All coaches, mentors, and special event volunteers report directly to the Lead Coordinator of the program or activity. 

Coach – Leads or assists a group of youth who participate in a DPAL league or athletic event. Volunteers between the ages of 11 and 18 may assist, but not lead, in this role.

Mentor – Leads or assists a group of youth who participate in a DPAL program or activity. Volunteers between the ages of 11 and 18 may assist, but not lead, in this role.

Special Events Volunteer – Assists the Lead Coordinator of a DPAL program with one-time or annual programs hosted by DPAL.  These volunteers may help with the actual event (set-up or take-down of activities, tracking attendance, collecting forms, score keeping, etc.) or may serve on planning and steering committees involved with the event for which they are volunteering.

If you are not a DPD employee, please fill out this form and email it to Sgt. Butler. Once your application has been received, a member of the PAL Unit will contact you about next steps.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Criminal background check
  • Complete an online Youth Safety Class
  • Agree to the rules and regulations outlined in the DPAL Volunteer Manual

Youth may begin volunteering for DPAL at the age of 11 with parent/guardian permission. Youth volunteers under the age of 14 will be exempt from the criminal background check and youth safety class.  For more information, please contact [email protected]
