2019 Lower Division Survey Results

Thank you for everyone who took the time to fill out the end of year survey for Dixie Terra Linda Little League lower divisions (Tee-Ball, AA, AAA).

There are 208 kids in these three division with ages 4-9 years old - more than half the league plays in these 3 youngest divisions, including our largest division, Tee-Ball.

There were 45 responders to the survey, which was emailed in early/mid-June. That means roughly 20% of our families are represented. As with any survey, the caveat is that you typically survey your most responsive individuals - so we can assume that we are overrepresented by coaches and team parents. I would be great to have more responses, but this points us in a direction that is more than just a "gut feel".

As a parent of two kids in the lower divisions I have many opinions around how to make our league more fun and some ideas to address some of the free text comments that aren't shown here. I can provide additional info to those who are interested - or make some updates here. For now, I wanted to make sure this material is transparent to all. Thanks - Rob Purvis Lower Division Commish/Parent/Coach. [email protected]

Notes: Overrepresented in AA, underrepresented in Tee-Ball and AAA.

1 is worst and 5 is best. We can be pleased with this. It should be noted that the lowest scored typically came from AAA where we had hard decisions around league rules, team sizes, and coaches. We learned from that experience and can do better next year. Many of the high scores mentioned how much they enjoyed their coaches.

1 is worst, 5 is best. Again some good news here but it also shows that there is a gap between kid and parent satisfaction which means that we can do better overall. Some of the constructive comments revolved around scheduling, especially the commitment for our youngest kids. And many parents loved the growing community aspect of the league, which as a parents (and a league) we should be encouraged by and do more to support.

A lot to digest from this. First we can be proud that "Having Fun" ranked so high. Other community aspects ranked well. Responders liked their coaches. Some of the structural items like the fields we play on ranked lower, snack bar food, and time commitment.

Full responses not legible here. But 1. Field 2. Player Clinics were clear. Spectator improvements like shade and better places to sit were frequent mentions. For fields, many thought they were not properly sized for AA and AAA kids. With our dirt field at Vallecito being a huge diamond. And our AA mixed use field by the Snack shack being too small for some AA teams. There are challenges in advocating for field improvements. Money and approvals from schools are the primary obstacles. Reach out to me if you're interested in helping us climb that mountain.

Yup, we could do better. I was personally pleased that we ranked this well. Much room for improvement, especially with better organization, but to really improve, the primary obstacle is volunteers willing to help us all.
