Coach Code of Conduct

Manager’s & Coach’s Code of Conduct


  1. Managers and coaches are to act as role models to the players at all times.
  2. Managers and coaches must show good sportsmanship and are prohibited from swearing or using abusive language at all times.
  3. Managers and coaches should create an atmosphere of encouragement for all players. Do not ridicule or discourage any player regardless of ability.
  4. Managers and coaches must treat umpires with respect. If a manager or coach wishes to question a decision or needs to discuss a situation, he must ask for time out and, if granted, discuss the matter courteously.
  5. A manager or coach must not abuse equipment in anger.
  6. Verbal abuse or ridicule of any player is prohibited.
  7. Threats of physical abuse or pushing, shoving, grabbing of shoulders or similar forms of “discipline” are prohibited. Additionally, calisthenics, such as push ups, running and sit ups, are not to be used as forms of discipline. Managers and coaches should use calisthenics for physical conditioning only and only during practice and pre­game warm ups. All such calisthenics shall be conducted as a group and never assigned as individual tasks. Any form of calisthenics should be age­appropriate.
  8. Use of alcohol or tobacco at any Little League game, practice, trips to the batting cage, and similar functions is prohibited.
  9. The manager shall be responsible for any prohibited activity of his coaches, parents, and players. All players, parents, and coaches are to be advised that the manager can be ejected or suspended for their behavior.
  10. After the game begins, the manager and his coaches are to remain in the dugout at all times, except (a) when time out is requested and granted for a conference with a player or umpire, or (b) when coaching first or third base, or (c) for an injury.
  11. A manager or coach may not solicit funds from team sponsors for the team’s use. All sponsor funds are to be turned over to CMALL.
  12. The manager and each coach must know the playing rules of both Little League International and CMALL local rules and make sure the rules are obeyed at all times. Work to avoid protests.
  13. Only the manager and two (2) coaches are permitted in the dugout. Non players are not allowed in the dugout or in the bullpens. In Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, and Farm divisions, a “Dugout Manager” may be used in addition to the two coaches to maintain order and discipline in the dugout.
  14. Managers must be on time for games and practices and may not leave players unattended. They must assure that a responsible coach is available at all times when he/she cannot be present. Failure to do so may be grounds for suspension.
  15. 15. Managers must have lineup cards prepared before the game to assure timely starts.
  16. The manager is responsible for all equipment. He must not allow players to throw or otherwise abuse equipment. A manager should turn in equipment promptly upon close of the season.
  17. A manager must bring his roster and medical release forms to all practices, games, and trips to the batting cages.
  18. Appointment as Manager or coach of a CMALL team obligates the appointee to participate in field maintenance, either first hand or through team representation. Additionally Managers are a. required to ensure preservation of equipment, and lead the participation effort in league events, and fundraising events.
  19. A maximum of four (4) events per week is permitted for all players on Major, Minor, and Farm division teams (games, practices, and batting cage visits). A maximum of three (3) events per week is permitted for all players on Coach Pitch and Tee Ball division teams.
  20. Direct all items of conflict or concern to the Coaching Coordinator, or in his absence, an available Board Member.
  21. Managers and coaches must not show favoritism to any player including their own children.
  22. A Manager has an affirmative duty to report any rule violation committed by another manager in his/her division.
  23. All teams above Farm (Machine Pitch) must have an official scorekeeper and utilize them according to Little League rules. The scorekeeper should act as an independent game official and be directed in his/her actions by the umpire. Knowledge of the score and batting order is the responsibility of the Manager; it is recommended that the Manager keep his own correct score­sheet in the dugout.
  24. Donations from parents of any equipment, facilities, fields, etc., are donations to CMALL, not to a specific team. All teams will use these evenly and the board will schedule use of all facilities.
  25. Managers are to respect the practice times of the other teams and not impose on them by using the leagues associated practice facilities, even if the facilities are not in use, during the assigned practice times of the other Managers.
