Merger
with Metro
Areas of concern for Falcons regarding
the merge:
no check in system in
place/enforced; no sportsmanship rule
an increase from 4 to 6 plays per
player
there is no impact players rule or
slaughter rule in place
unlimited # of players per team
~noted
that with the possibility of Metro having 22 teams it would essentially be
divided/split into 2 and each team would only play certain teams.
Sloan
did mention that upon her leaving the meeting with River City after discussing
the possible merge she felt as if we should not merge unless our concerns were
heard and that changes were implemented.
Metro pros:
guaranteed 4 home games,
all-stars
game which is typically played 2 weekends after the championship game.
bylaws are quite similar to ours
but not enforced
Reasoning behind River City
talking about merging:
-referee shortages- will cut down
on missed games
-6u option for flag
-ready for change
In
Metro it is said that the Presidents of each association gets a vote and not
only the Board.
Annual
joining fee for Metro is cheaper at $500 however, ref fees (historically
$100 per game x 8 games + playoffs, and championships if applicable) field
fees, etc are not included in this $500 fee and are additional charges that add
up quickly
We currently pay River city $10per
player; $6 per cheerleader
Ideas to entice others to
join/rejoin River City-
-all stars game
-cheaper fees
-pay refs more money to alleviate
shortages
New
Kent Falcons voted NO to the merger.
Sloan
advised that she as well as all Presidents of each association are to meet
tomorrow 1-4-23 via Zoom to vote. If River City choses to merge at this meeting
it is out of our control, we will be Metro immediately.
Helmets: in preparation for this '23
season about 50 helmets need to be reconditioned and it is pretty pricey. The
process does not take a long time if it is done early. Xenith no longer
reconditions so we will have to look into other sources.
*Regardless
of what League we will join for the 2023 Season we will need to obtain dates of
when uniform designs are approved so that we can get our uniform design &
color selection in and submitted for approval. These need to be ordered
ASAP.
Cheer:
inquired
on uniforms for next season to better match the player uniforms/colors
giving
parents of returning & new cheerleaders the option to buy the 'extras' and
so the registration fees would be lowered to reflect the base cost & the
possibility of add-ons
will touch back on this at a
future date.
Expo:
January
28 at Journey Christian Fellowship 10-2pm; in person & online. Early bird
fee $40.
A
flier will be emailed, sent out in last season's Groupme apps and posted on
Facebook.
Registration/Participants will be
capped and waitlisted as the following:
*Rookies 18
*Freshman 25
*Sophomores 25
*Juniors 25
*Cheer does not currently have a
cap.
Important to note that our
inventory levels of shoulder pads and helmets also heavily
impacts the total number of
players we can register.
There were discussions amongst
those present of possibly splitting teams to accommodate the number of
registrants on waitlist but again the inventory levels/access to supplies are
unfortunately limited and this discussion was tabled until after the Expo so
that we can get a real look at numbers of registrants.
Registration amount discussion was
tabled until future date.
meeting end time 8:16pm.
