Lombardo Award
The Lombardo award goes to the team's "UNSUNG HERO." This award is named after Patti Lombardo who basically started lacrosse at Nease High School. Patti played a leadership role in organizing everything under the sun from its inception. She did all the "grunt work" and behind the scenes stuff, which is what an "Unsung Hero" does. # 7 Jersey
Carrying on # 7 Jersey
Jamie Chapin was one of the first ever Nease Panthers, and a former captain. He passed away in 2011 right before our season after a hard fought battle with brain cancer. The #7 jersey was taken out of play to honor Jamie and given to Justin Lee at the end of the season. Justin wore this jersey until he graduated in 2014. The jersey was then passed on to a freshman, Tyler Schaffer, to wear for another 3 years. Tyler passed on the jersey to Matt Pounder at the end of the 2017 season. After the 2020 season, Matt pass the #7 jersey to freshman Joseph Wozniak to wear for the rest of his Nease career.
Tyler Schaffer, Class of 2017, gave the following remarks about what the #7 jersey means:
"The number 7 is a reminder to play for something greater than yourself. Not everyone has the opportunity to even play lacrosse so don’t take it for granted. It’s an honor not only to the person who receives it but to the whole program. The person who receives this award has been surrounded and supported by teammates with similar character during the past season.
"And finally it’s a responsibility. The player wearing the number 7 jersey has a responsibility to himself, the team, and the the community to display outstanding character on and off of the field. He has a responsibility to lead and inspire through his actions. In order to truly honor Jamie and the number 7 the player must be representative of him during practice, on game day, in the classroom, and while interacting with others. Wear this jersey with pride just as Jamie did."
