FAQ

Q.  Is my child eligible to play?
A.  Southern Little League is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 16. We use your child's official "league age" to determine eligibility in the various levels of play we offer. To determine your child's official league age, click here. Your child must also reside or attend school within our official league boundary.

Q.  When does the season take place?
A.  Our summer season usually runs from mid-April to mid-June. Team and all-star tournaments take place after the regular season and usually wrap up by the end of July. Signup takes place mid-January with a deadline in early March. Tryouts and drafts take place in March, with teams formed by the end of March. We also offer a Fall Ball season that runs Sunday afternoons from late August until mid October. Signup for Fall Ball is from mid-July to mid-August. Everything is announced on our website: southernLL.org.

Q.  How much does it cost?
A.  Our summer season costs $185 for baseball and $110 for softball. Fall Ball costs $60.

Q.  What are the levels of play?
A.  We offer baseball and softball at the following levels: (Use this link to determine your child's official "league age")
  • Coach Pitch (ages 7-8)
  • Minors (ages 9-11)
  • Majors (ages 10-12)
  • Juniors (ages 13-14)
  • Seniors (ages 15-16)

Q.  Do teams travel?
A.  All our regular season baseball games take place at our location at 2525 Kalamazoo SE in Grand Rapids. Softball teams play some games at our home location and some away games at other leagues in the Grand Rapids area. Postseason district baseball tournaments can also be up to about an hour away. All-star tournament play moves from nearby to statewide to nationwide as teams advance in the bracket.
