* A runner may leave the base as soon as the ball is released from the pitcher's hand
6

The 3rd out of every inning is a LIVE BALL, which could result in scoring more than 6 runs The play is dead when the ball is in control of a player in the pitcher's circle. Once the ball is in possession in the circle, the runners may continue to the next base if they have already rounded a base.
For example, if a runner has rounded 3rd before the ball has been secured in the circle, she may continue to home. She may still be tagged out at home. If there is an overthrow at home, or any base, the ball is live again until in control of a player in the circle.

a) A runner on 1st or 2nd can advance/steal only one base per pitch even in the event of an overthrow in live ball territory. If they advance more than one, they are liable to be put out. At end of play if the runner is safe and has advanced more than one base, the umpire will return the runner to the correct base.
b) A batter runner, who has received a base on balls, cannot attempt to steal second base on the same play.
c) Awarded bases will apply to all runners. This includes an overthrow into dead ball territory.
d) No stealing home on an overthrow to the pitcher, but if a throw is made to 3rd runner may advance to home.
(See scenarios at the bottom)

10U Stealing Scenarios

Scenario 1:

  • Runners on 1st and 3rd.
  • Pitcher pitches the ball. The catcher catches it.

  • Catcher overthrows the ball toward 3rd base.
  • 3rd base runner can steal home.

Scenario 2:

  • Runner on 1st base.
  • Pitcher pitches the ball.
  • Runner steals 2nd
  • Catcher tries to throw the ball to 2nd, but overthrows the ball.
