Ramona Skatepark was proud to receive $2,500 grant from the
Ramona Community Foundation during its 6th Annual Grants Celebration at
Rock’n ZZ Ranch on October 6, 2017. This grant will enable Ramona
Skatepark Champions to continue to pursue a local after-school
skateboarding athletic program. The program hopes to provide pro and
pro-am skateboarding coaches and portable skatepark equipment at local
schools. Several “Street League” style competitions help local
skateboarders to learn competition skills to help them progress to
regional, state or even Olympic level competitions.

ARTICLE UPDATED 12/2017 The Ramona Unified School District has denied
the skateboard program that we had been working with an OPMS school
representative to launch. Despite prior district approval, Nona Silverthorne and Rena Seifts, representing the District, would not allow parents to speak and provided no insurmountable
objections, just "No." Neither held an open mind for discussion or negotiation. Communication between the district and the school, and with us, was abysmal. They waited to the last minute
to pull the plug, setting our program back more than a year, and putting our
grants at risk. The first major blow to the program is absorbed and we
move onward, starting over by looking for more reliable community
partners and re-tooling the program for the new partners.
