Fall Registration Now Open

The Fall Skateboard Sessions are now open for registration!  This season we have two coaches, Coach Ryan and Coach Tony, and a new location that is open to us more days per week, so we can have two divisions, one for beginners and one for intermediate/advanced.  Each division meets twice per week for five weeks. Learn more at our registration website, which is sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods.

BULLDAWG BEGINNERS:

Beginner skateboarders learn the fundamental skills and rules of safe skateboarding

WHEN: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm
September 10 through October 10

WHERE: New Life Assembly of God on the basketball courts (behind Denny’s.)

Learning skateboarding fundamentals in a structured environment can help beginning skaters through what are the most difficult and dangerous stages of learning to skate. Fundamental skateboarding lessons create a scaffolding of skills and confidence that can help increase a new skater’s chances for positive skateboarding. The building of a strong foundation of fundamentals can prove invaluable to aspiring skaters as they work to advance towards more difficult terrain and moves.

BEGINNING FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS:

  • Skateboard and safety equipment orientation
  • Body consciousness and balance
  • How to fall and “bail out” safely
  • How to push, turn and stop on a flat surface
  • Transition from flat to curved surface
  • Fundamental skatepark etiquette and “dropping in”

BULLDAWG BOARDERS:

Intermediate and Advanced Skateboarders must demonstrate mastery of fundamentals above, and will start at their own level and work with mentors to progress their skills at their own pace.

WHEN:  Wednesdays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm and Saturdays from 9am to 11am.
September 11 to October 12

WHERE:  At New Life Assembly of God on the basketball courts (behind Denny’s.)

Although skateboarding progression requires building on fundamental skills, it does not necessarily follow one consistent path of skill acquisition. Skateboarding
students will vary widely in proficiency, ability, and aptitude for learning new skills, or even the mastery of different skills.

INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED SKILLS:

  • Use different setups of ramps and rails to learn about skatepark “flow”
  • Practice skatepark etiquette to drop in safely and avoid collision
  • Use elevation to “pump” and control speed
  • Mentoring for intermediate & advanced skills and tricks
  • Opportunities to win custom skateboards or equipment
  • Advanced skateboarders can earn sponsorship to regional competitions

Skateboarders enrolled in the intermediate/advanced class who do not demonstrate mastery of the referenced fundamentals may be asked to move to the beginners class.

Registration fee is $185.  Discounts for siblings, returning players, and income assistance* are available. Click through for more information.
