William “Bill” J. Howard


1949 – 2025

William (Bill) J. Howard, 76, of East Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in 1949, Bill lived a life rooted in family, community, and kindness. He shared many wonderful years with his devoted wife, Donna Howard, and was a proud and loving stepfather to Suzanne Heimer and her husband, Chris. He was predeceased by his stepsons, Kenneth Burnett and Russell Burnett.

Bill had a special role as a father figure, raising his granddaughter, Jessica Burnett. He was also a cherished grandfather to Bryan Burnett, Russell Burnett Jr., Willie Burnett, Breanna Burnett, Nate Heimer, and Madison Heimer, Shannon Howe, and a proud great-grandfather to Jayce and Isayiah Hardnett. Bill leaves behind 6 siblings—Brian, Janice, Keith, Johnny, Barbara, and Joan. 

A talented athlete, Bill played basketball in college before heading to the navy along side his brother Brian. After that he began a long and dedicated career at Travelers Insurance. Beyond his professional life, his greatest impact was devoting 40 + years to district 7 little league. Bill will be remembered for his big heart, gentle wisdom, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy of love, laughter, and service to others will live on in all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bill’s life at a memorial service on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at Spencer’s Funeral Home in East Hampton, CT.
