Swarm Welcomes New Teams for 2012; 15U Team Disbands
Over the last three years, the Baldwinsville Swarm was essentially one team, moving its way through games and tournament brackets as 13U, 14U, and 15U teams. This year, the Baldwinsville Swarm welcomes two new teams to the Swarm family.
The former Swarm team, which participated in the 2011 season as a 15U team, will most likely be disbanded. With the advent of a new summer varsity program at Baldwinsville High School, most Swarm players will play with that varsity program, which now has a travel component.
For the 2012 season, the Swarm welcomes two new teams: an 11U team and a 13U team.
Over these last three years, the original Swarm team, managed by Brian DeLola, has enjoyed great success, going from a 13U team that struggled against 14U competition in 2009, to a 14U team that went 23-7 and reached the playoff rounds in the two tournaments in which it participated, to a 15U team that won its first tournament at the Mustang Summer Classic in Marcellus, New York. Although most players, coaches, and parents are sad to see the team disband, all of them are pleased with what they were able to accomplish in their time together.
The Swarm mission has always been to develop Baldwinsville players with quality coaching and quality instruction. When it first began, Swarm organizers, led by its president, Mike Borek, always envisioned the Swarm concept being adopted by other Baldwinsville teams. In 2012, two teams will carry on the Swarm tradition.
A 13U group, managed by Dan Robinson, will participate in the Eastern New York Travel League in 2012 and will enter a few tournaments. These will be announced shortly.
An 11U group, managed by Randy Ray, will participate as strictly a tournament team and will enter four tournaments in 2012.
These also will be announced shortly. More information on the two teams will be forthcoming.
