NYO FALL SPORTS UPDATE (7.15.2020)

NYO Families,

NYO opened up fall sports registration on June 15th. At that time, we modified the normal registration process and split  programs into two categories, contact & non-contact, based on feedback from the local/state governments and  medical experts. This process included registering for a waitlist, with no fee due at the time of registration, for contact sports as we gathered interest.  The next step of the contact sports waitlist/registration process was to begin collecting registration fees starting July 15th (today).

The pandemic has been incredibly hard on so many aspects of all of our lives, and youth sports has not been  spared. NYO is committed to creating athletic activities and skill development platforms to the greatest extent  possible during this period, so that our program children do not lose a year of training and development, even if  team athletic activities are limited because of social distancing mandates. We also believe that even if children are  not able to engage in team sports, they can at least see one another and train together in their sport of choice, in a  manner that does not involve physical contact. We love the NYO community and community events, and we miss  them.

With that in mind, we have spent these last few months developing programs for sports training and development,  for specific sports, for any fall sports at NYO that will not be permitted to offer our normal team vs. team  games/leagues, because of the pandemic.  We have sat down with the leaders in our various fall sports to come  up with training and skill development programs that will be fun, rigorous and valuable to the participants. Those  leaders are sad that a competitive sports season may pass, but excited to develop new and valuable ways to  provide our kids the opportunity to stay involved in their favorite sports and to get better.

As of July 15th:
+ NYO non-contact sports (baseball & softball) registration remains open and we are working  towards offering a normal season of games. If a season is not allowed, we will move to a skill development/clinic  format.
+ NYO contact sports (flag football, tackle football, girls basketball and cheer) will be moving to a skill  development/clinic format for the fall season. We will also be adding boys basketball skill training to the fall  season. We will not be requiring payment on July 15th for contact sports as communicated in our previous emails.
+ These programs will be built & scheduled to encourage multi-sport participation.

Please be on the lookout  for more details on these programs in the coming weeks.

Stay safe,
NYO
