Why am I wait listed?

Wait list. Typically the last thing one wants to see when registering for anything. It's understandable, but here is why this wait list is different from others. In our Olive BST league the purpose of a wait list is to maximize the efficiency of the league building process when it comes to teams, and number of kids on a given team. Generally speaking when it is a mad rush to register, and not as many coaches volunteer as expected, teams end up overloaded. Having fourteen or fifteen kids on a baseball roster is not fun for anyone involved. A more targeted number allows for more at-bats, and more playing time in general.

The wait list at Olive is designed so players registering are placed on a wait list, but will most likely be activated from it before the season starts. This is no guarantee, but we do the best we can to recruit coaches so we can field plenty of teams. In order to keep the target roster number, 12, consistent players placed on a wait list are activated when a coach registers, and is approved, to coach the corresponding division. When a coach signs up for a division the next 12 players on that division wait list are activated into the draft pool for the team making process. This helps teams remain the optimum size.
