GUIDELINES 2020

Ashtabula County Baseball & Softball Guidelines for a Safe Season 2020

1. Entering the complex.
A 5’ x 8’ banner with red background and safety yellow lettering will be hung at the gate of every complex being used in the county. The banner will list the CDC guidelines to remind you to self-check before entering. (By doing this you are not taking the chance of a player, parent or spectator entering the complex and exposing everyone they come into contact with if they are ill.) It will be less likely to spread viruses.

2. Players and Coaches
T-Ball and Coach Pitch  Divisions
All players and coaches must maintain 6ft social distancing at all times. If a coach is needed to help the player adjust in the batter’s box or on the field he/she must put a mask on if within 6ft for adjustment. (At these ages sometimes the coach has to help the player in the batter’s box to hit off the tee for a minute. Teams can allow 1 player (catcher) in the dugouts at a time. All players will spread out 6 ft. apart down the fence lines in their designated area. This area will be their area for the entire game. 1 parent/guardian will be in this area to ensure this young player keeps his/her distance from the other players while off the field of play. In moving players from the dugout to along the fence will increase the safety of our players and make social distancing possible without the need for a mask

Minors, Majors and Jr. Divisions
All players and coaches must maintain 6 ft. social distancing at all times. Teams can allow 1 player (catcher) in the dugouts at a time. All other players will spread out 8 ft. apart down the fence lines in their designated area. This area will be their area for the entire game. Moving players from the dugout to along the fence will increase the safety of our players and make social distancing possible without the need for a mask.

All Coaches, team moms and umpires will carry a mask for attending to an injured player if needed.

No players or coaches may enter the dugouts until all other players equipment etc. is out and the benches are sanitized. No players may share equipment before properly sanitizing. Benches will be sanitized between each game. Umpires will sanitize the balls every half inning.

Mound visits must maintain 6 ft. distances. Base coaches must also maintain 6 ft. distances and cannot touch a runner or player on or off the field.

Catchers will be asked to maintain a safe distance from the front of home plate. The umpire will draw a line for the catcher to stay behind.

There can be no handshakes or fist pumps before or after the games. Please tip your hat to the opponents after the game from your dugouts.

3. Umpires
All umpiring will be done behind the pitching mound with 6 ft. spacing. (Moving the umpire to this location will make the social distancing much easier and will alleviate the need for a mask.) Umpires will carry a mask in case a player is injured and needs to help attend to that player.

4. All Spectators
All spectators must stay in the outfield, outside the fence lines or a safe distance from players. All spectators must maintain social distancing of 6 ft. at bathroom, concession areas and game watching areas. All bleachers will be removed or restricted for seating so please bring a chair for you and your player. Please use judgment when bringing senior citizens and others with health issues to the games.

5. Concession/Common Areas
Concession stand area will be marked every 6ft for spectators to stand in line and wait to order. This area will be sanitized every hour of use. Once spectators get their food they will then take their food to the area they are watching the games from and keep their distance from others.
There will be no outside food and drinks allowed at the park. No team water will be allowed. All individual player bottles must be marked with their name. Bathrooms/common areas will be sanitized every 2 hours for safety when the complex is open.

6. Leaving the complex after the game is over. All players, coaches, parents and spectators are asked to keep a 6ft distance while leaving the fields to go to your car. There will be no standing around for conversation in the parking lot after the game. If you are standing around you will be asked to leave.

7. Enforcing the Rules
To the best of their ability, all board members, volunteers, and employees will try to make sure all spectators and players are following the social distancing orders. If a spectator is refusing to comply with these guidelines they may be asked to leave the complex.

8. Additional issues
Any instances not listed above will be left up to our leagues administration. All teams, coaches and spectators must adhere to these rules for the safety of everyone involved. All coaches will be held responsible for their players and parents. Please keep all people who are sick at home. Anyone sick or having bad allergies needs to take the week off. If a team or parents is found breaking these rules you will be asked to leave the complex.
