NYO Fall Girls Basketball offers a great off-season girls’ basketball program to further girls in their training and to prepare girls for winter leagues. Whether your daughter is a beginner or preparing for middle school tryouts, NYO Fall Girls Basketball is a great opportunity to develop their skills. This program has a strong focus on TEAM basketball and skill development, the leagues are structured so that teams are balanced, and players receive sound fundamental instruction and substantial playing time in a competitive and organized learning environment. The program serves 250+ players and is designed to accommodate girls that also play another fall sport. This program intentionally lays out its leagues to follow age appropriate development of its players to ready them to be the ultimate teammate who is fundamentally sound and ready to ‘play ball.’

NYO Girls Basketball

NYO GIRLS BASKETBALL

At NYO, we strive to provide the best possible recreational sports programming while supporting the mission of the park by emphasizing character development and sportsmanship.  We are blessed to be able to offer the only fall rec basketball league of its size and kind in the Metro-Atlanta area.

This program operates grade-based leagues for K through 12th graders that build off of our introductory developmental league for K through 3rd grade girls.  With a focus on TEAM basketball and skill development, the leagues are structured so that teams are balanced, and players receive sound fundamental instruction and substantial playing time in a competitive and organized learning environment. The program has traditionally served around 250 players from over 30 schools and is designed to accommodate girls that also play another fall sport.

Each league follows age appropriate basketball skill and concept development guidelines in order to instill in our players the path to become the ultimate teammate that is fundamentally sound and ready to 'play ball.' Each league concludes by the last week of October.  Columbus Day weekend has no league events scheduled, but NYO offers additional clinics for those who would like to continue to develop their game during the holiday.

DEVELOPMENTAL LEAGUE

The NYO Developmental league is open to girls who are in K, 1st, 2nd & 3rd grade beginning to play. The objective of this league is to take a beginner player and provide them with the proper introduction to the sport, instill a basic fundamental skill base and general understanding of the sport. Rims are lowered and age appropriate equipment is used to promote proper form and technique.  At a minimum, half of each session will consist of skill development building up to games. The season events are on Monday afternoons and Saturday mornings.  The league launches on August 17 and runs through October 7.

ROOKIE LEAGUE

The Rookie League is designed for our experienced 3rd and 4th graders to continue the fundamental focus of our Developmental league.  All players get together in the gym the first few weeks of the season for skill training and small sided games.  At this point, balanced teams are made and season is played .  This league has 2 events a week and every player will play at least one half of each game. Girls will play on a 9 foot hoop on a shortened court.  The league launches play on August 18 and plays on Wednesdays and Sundays through October 20.

VARSITY

The VARSITY league is where our 5th/6th graders come to compete! Games will be played on a full length court. Girls will play with a 28.5 ball on a 10 foot hoop. Two events per week (Tuesday games and Thursday or Friday practices) and the league will start on August 15.  All players and all coaches will attend on August 15 to assess players for the draft. First team practices will be August 20. This will give all teams 2 practices before games start on August 27. Games will be on Tuesdays and practices on Thursdays or Fridays.  All teams will play 7 regular season games and then a single elimination tournament.  The league will end on October 20 with the championship game.

NCAA

The NCAA league is designed to develop the game of 7th and 8th graders as well as advanced 6th graders in preparation for their Middle School tryouts.  Skill development is still the foundation of this league and the rules provide the opportunity of added situational complexity to grow the players whole game IQ.  Teams are formed after evaluations on August 16 to establish parity across the league for competition through the season leading up to a single elimination tournament that runs from October 17-20.  NCAA league games are on Wednesdays and Fridays.  It begins August 16 and ends with a single elimination tournament with the championship on October 20.
