Rec Soccer Program

RECREATIONAL SOCCER: AGE GROUPS U8 - U16

Questions:  Email our Rec Commissioner,  Caroline Beglin at  [email protected]

Our Recreational Soccer program is about encouraging kids and their love of the game.  Right now, our kids deserve some sense of normalcy, an outlet to exercise, and the opportunity to continue friendships and make new ones.  With our COVID guidelines, our recreational program will provide a safe environment for kids who want to continue playing the game they love or who want to give the sport a try - no matter their age or experience - and find out why it is the most popular sport in world!

COVID Guidelines for Playing Rec Soccer:

Parents are ultimately responsible for the well-being of their children and should only register their children to play if they feel comfortable. One important change from the Fall is that ALL PLAYERS AND PARENTS MUST HAVE A MASK ON AT ALL TIMES.

Guidelines:
1.  Pursuant to the latest mandates by the governor and Union County, all players must wear a mask during training, games, while on the bench, and traveling to the practice field and away from the practice field.  So, MASK WEARING AT ALL TIMES.

2. Games will be scheduled throughout Saturday and Sunday. Saturday games can begin as early as 9 AM. Sunday games can begin as early as 1 PM.

3.  Two family members can attend each game.

4.  All parents of participating players must sign and submit the "Hold-No-Harm Release."

Practices & Games

  • Rec teams have two one-hour practices per week at Western Union Elementary. Practice times will range from 6pm-8pm. We try to schedule our younger Rec teams for the 6pm slot.  The  practice days and time will depend on coach and field availability.  If you have any practice day conflicts, please note those in the comment sections during the registration process.  Nothing is a guarantee , but we will try our best to work with the times you are available.
  • HOME games are at Western Union Elementary.  The Union County Youth Soccer League plays against teams at Weddington (Optimist Park), Mint Hill (Brief Road Fields), Porter Ridge (Hemby Bridge Fields), Indian Trail (Edna Love Fields), and Piedmont (Noel Williams Fields).  Saturday games can begin as early as 9 AM. Sunday games can begin as early as 1 PM.

Coaches

Coaches at this level are volunteers.  They willingly give of their time and energy to our young players.  In return for their efforts they receive our appreciation, memories made with their children and a group of smiling faces.  Please consider becoming a coach and indicate your interest during registration.

Head Coaches (if only one coach for a given team) receive 100% off player cost. If there are two coaches for a given team, both coaches receive 50% off player cost.  This will be handled after the start of the season.
