Rec Soccer Program

Our Recreational Soccer program is about encouraging kids and their love of the game.  Right now, our kids deserve some sense of normalcy, an outlet to exercise, and the opportunity to continue friendships and make new ones.  With our COVID guidelines, our recreational program will provide a safe environment for kids who want to continue playing the game they love or who want to give the sport a try - no matter their age or experience - and find out why it is the most popular sport in world!

Under COVID Phase II, our club cannot compete against other club's teams, but we can offer traditional soccer activities and scrimmages within our own club.   And because the Union County Youth Soccer board voted to begin soccer again in January rather than modify the fall season, we plan to offer recreational soccer within our club.

What does that look like?

Our programming will depend heavily on the number of registrants per age group.

Traditional Recreational Program:
If the number is near the typical registration totals, we will host "friendly" scrimmages against other teams within our own club.

3v3 League:
If the number of registrants is lower, we will operate an intra-club 3v3 league.  A 3v3 league, because it isn't traditional, would give players the opportunity to play in a smaller space, get more touches on the ball, to score up to ten times more goals than a traditional scrimmage, and quickly improve both technical and tactical skills.  The game is faster, but 3v3 has national merit, with an annual national youth tournament held in Disney each year.

Skill Pop Sessions:
Another potential avenue for recreational players to participate will be Skill Pop sessions, where registrants will be able to attend soccer skills sessions that focus on building technical skills like dribbling, passing, and striking balls.  The "skill of the week pop-up session" will be announced at the beginning of the week along with the time and location of the training.  These skill sessions will also be open to anyone in the club on an "a la carte" basis, while registrant participation in all sessions will be included with recreation tuition.

Friday Night Futbol:
Players aged 14-19 will be able to sign-up for Friday night 7v7 games with one optional pool training session every Wednesday night.  The impact of COVID to the fall high school sports season has left many players without a place to play, but the Friday Night Futbol season restores that capability.  And it's not just for boys.  Co-ed teams can also enter.  More information on the Friday Night Futbol season can be found here:  Click here to go to the Friday Night Futbol page.

 Important Fall 2020 Dates:

Recreation Soccer Season: Approx ... August 26, 2019- November 11, 2019
Open registration: Now- September 11
Practices begin:  Week of September 21
Scrimmage play begins: September 26
End of the Season:  First week of November

COVID Guidelines for Playing Recreational Soccer:

Careful consideration and "practice runs" have been used to make the decision to hold a micro season with several guidelines and rules that will be strictly enforced.  We've been playing since the second week in June under guidelines that have proven to be very effective.  Parents are ultimately responsible for the well-being of their children and should only register their children to play if they feel comfortable.

1.  At the start of practice, all players should be guided by the coach to a "player station," which will be marked by both paint and by an individual cone.  Practice will begin and end at this station, which will be appropriately distanced from other stations.

2.  Parents must return to vehicles.  No spectators will be permitted at practices to ensure that field restrictions that determine the number of people per field are met.

3.  Coaches will use club-issued training guidelines to design activities that keep players active while limiting contact.  No high-fives, handshakes, long lines, or team huddles will take place at practices or games.

4. Scrimmages will be scheduled throughout the week and on Saturday and Sunday to limit the number of people on a field at a given time.

5.  Up to two family members can attend a scrimmage, including the player.  Player + 1 Family Member

6. Scrimmage attendees must sit at designated "player stations" along the outside of the field (image to follow).

7.  All parents of participating players must sign and submit the "Hold-No-Harm Release."  Hold No Harm COVID Release

Players must be registered by their Birth Year.  Ex.  If a player was born in 2010, they will register for U11, no matter the month they were born in.  Requests for player placement will be considered but there is no guarantee that the request will be granted.

Practices & Games

Recreational teams will have up to two team practices per week.  The practice day and time will depend on coach and field availability.   If you have any practice time conflicts, please note those in the comment sections during the registration process.  Again, we will try our best to work with you,  but there are no guarantees.

Practices and scrimmages are held at  Western Union Elementary School.

Equipment Needed

Each player is required to have a uniform top.  This will be a pinnie or training bib and is already included in the price of registration.

Each child will also need shin guards and an appropriately sized soccer ball at each practice and game. Soccer cleats are not required but are highly recommended.

Each child will need a personal hand sanitizer and a water bottle with his or her name clearly marked on the bottle.

Your fees pay for league and state registration fees, referee fees, equipment, field maintenance and utility costs.

The fee for the Fall 2020 season is $2oo for players U8 & above OR $500 for each team registered to play in the Friday Night Futbol league.

                                           **THERE ARE NO REFUNDS**

Coaches at this level are volunteers.  They willingly give of their time and energy to our young players.  In return for their efforts they receive our appreciation, memories made with their children and a group of smiling faces.  Please consider becoming a coach and indicate your interest by selecting that option during registration.

If you have a specific day, time, or location that you can or can not practice, please add this to the comment section of the registration.  While we strive to honor requests; however,  we can not guarantee all can be met.
