Developing Youth through Rugby

Program Description

Spring 2020 Recreational Season

We will be holding training on one week day (either Tuesday or Thursday) and Saturdays this season. The week day session will be for 1 hour for all age groups and each week day session will focus on a specific skill or concept. Saturdays will run from 4 to 6 PM and include a match at the end. Both the week day and Saturday sessions will take place at Fort Family Park.

*Tuesday time will be announced soon.

Each session will focus on a key aspect of the game and build on the previous sessions. No experience is needed to participate. All athletic abilities and experience is taken into consideration to ensure a safe, enjoyable learning environment for each child.

*Note that the use of the word tackle under Flag Rugby does not indicate that this is an actual tackle. In flag rugby, pulling a player's flag is the equivalent of tackle in Rugby.

Saturdays will include a warm up, and modified rugby games that incorporate the skill learned on Tuesday into game-like situations. The last 20 minutes will be used in competitive match play where players will be expected to demonstrate team-work, ability to make decisions and the ability to incorporate skills learned. Every player brings something different to the game whether it's leadership, a good boot or the ability to carry the ball forward. Players will need to work together to use their strengths and encourage each other. Winning is not as important as learning.

All participants are required to have 2 mouth guards and soccer/rugby cleats to participate. No metal studded cleats are permitted. If you're not sure what to get or where to get these items, contact us and we will answer any questions you may have or give you some suggestions regarding where to get them.

We would prefer that you sign your child up before the season starts so that we can plan accordingly. Registration can be completed online using a debit/credit card. We will be having a parent meeting in January where we will provide paper forms if you prefer to fill out a paper form.

Player Kits

A team shirt will be provided when you register. We have new shirts this year so all players registered will receive a new shirt.

Newly registered players will receive a team jersey. We are using the same jersey we used last year. If your child played las year and needs a new jersey let us know so we can make sure we can place an order on time if needed.

All Players:

There are a few items that are required to ensure the player's safety. Each player
MUST have the following:

   1. Soccer or Rugby Cleats
   2. A minimum of 2 mouth guards
   3. Water

We have a club store set up at Ruggers Rugby Supply where you can find some
of the items needed. It is not required that these items be purchased from the club store.
This is merely provided as a convenience. Scrum caps can also be found at Ruggers Rugby
Supply but are not required. You can reach the club store by clicking on the logo below.
