Registration for the 2020 Spring Season is CLOSED!

STEP 1. --- BOUNDARY VERIFICATION

According to Little League rules, players MUST reside or attend school within our League’s boundary, in order to participate at Huntington Valley Little League.

Please visit http://www.littleleague.org/LeagueFinder.htm to confirm your boundary.

Schools include, but may not be limited to Newland, Oka, Perry, and Smith Elementary, Kinetic Academy, and Dwyer and Talbert Middle Schools. If you reside outside our boundary, but attend a school within it, Little League requires that you submit a copy of the School Enrollment Form. PLEASE NOTE: In order to be accepted, School Enrollment Forms MUST be signed by the Principal or Vice Principal so plan ahead.

STEP 3. --- Tryouts and Draft - FAQ

Who must tryout?
Players who are League Age 8 or older, must tryout/be evaluated in order to be placed on a team. League Age 7 players who want to be eligible for the Minor C division draft must also participate in a league-sanctioned tryout. At the annual Tryout Event, players are evaluated on their abilities to throw, hit and run. Please note: All players will be placed on a team regardless of their performance at tryouts.

What is the draft?
After tryouts, managers of each division (Minor C and up) participate in a Player Draft Night. The draft helps the League form balanced teams and ensure that players are selected in divisions with other players of similar ability. At the draft, managers first draw a random order and then draft their teams in a serpentine fashion. For example, whomever has the last pick in the first round, will get the first pick in the second round and so forth. The highest division drafts first (usually Majors) and is followed by the next lower division on the following night. Any player not selected in a draft is automatically placed in the draft for the next (lower) division on the subsequent night.

Can players be protected?
Players may not be protected by managers, with the exception of their own children. The children of any assistant coaches must be selected during the draft or traded for on draft night.

In which division will my player be placed?
The divisions in which players will be drafted, depends on each individual player. Players with advanced ability may be selected for the highest division that they are eligible to play. For example, a League Age 8 player first becomes eligible during the Minor B draft. The majority of League Age 8 players will be drafted into Minor C. However, there might be a small group of players that need more development, remain un-drafted and are then placed in the Farm division. This arrangement gives each child the greatest opportunity to develop during the season.

STEP 4. --- Team Volunteers

HVLL is a strictly volunteer-based organization, so each team needs a lot of help during the season. As such, you will be asked about your areas of interest during the registration process. There are plenty of roles to fill. If everyone pitches in a little, no one will have too much to handle. Don't worry if you don't have any experience, we will teach you everything you need to know!

The team MANAGER* likes to be in charge. They take the lead, make sure the team runs smoothly and everyone learns a lot, and most importantly has fun.

The ASSISTANT COACH* prefers to help out. They assist the manager and help with instruction, but don't have to carry all the gear.

The TEAM PARENT* keeps everyone organized. They assist the manager and coaches, make sure players are informed of practice/game schedules, and facilitate team volunteers. Also, they usually get a cool gift at the end of the season.

FIELD MAINTENANCE volunteers don't mind getting dirty. In addition to the annual clean up and Field Maintenance Day, they help prepare/groom the fields either before or after practices/games.

An UMPIRE* likes the excitement of the game and following the rules. They get to use a neat clicker-thingy to keep track of key details of the game, get good exercise and learn a lot about the game of baseball.

The SCOREKEEPER (Farm and up) has an eye for details. Designed for anyone who likes to tell a story, the scorekeeper gets to record the official "story" of the game. Plus, they get to use a colored pencil and sit in a reserved area (Minor C and up).

The PITCHCOUNTER (Minor C and up) also has an eye for details. They get to hang out with the scorekeeper in a reserved area and play a key role in helping keep our kids safe. Making check marks on a simple form, recording the number of pitches a player makes, and operating the scoreboard (Minor B and up), are small requirements in exchange for one of the best seats in the house.

OPENING DAY volunteers are always up for a good celebration. They get to help with a wide variety of activities on Opening Day such as the bounce house, dunk tank, Hit-A-Thon, vendors, silent auction...the possibilities are endless.

SNACK BAR volunteers love to be in the kitchen. Not really, but they are popular with HVLL friends both young and old. Needless to say, the Snack Bar is a very busy place come game time.

*Volunteers for these positions MUST complete 2020 volunteer information online (more information to come) and are subject to an annual background check per Little League Official Rules.

Important Dates

Document Checks:
All players must provide verification of age and residency (or school location) within HVLL's boundaries IN PERSON at one of the annual Doc Check events. Although the system default allows these documents to be uploaded during the registration process, District 62 requires that these documents be provided in person at one of our annual Document Check events so save time/frustration and skip this step during the registration process.

All players League Ages 8-14 must participate in tryouts each year. Make-ups for players who are not able to attend at their designated appointment time must be scheduled in advance.
