Who runs the League?

The league is chartered through Little League International, and the local league operations are managed by a group of volunteer Board of Directors. We choose to serve our community and volunteer our time to pull together all aspects of the seasons and league operations. We are parents, coaches, and general members of the community. Please remember that we are all volunteers, and we do our best to ensure a wonderful experience for your “Little Leaguer.”

I’m having trouble logging into the Website for information/registration, what do I do?

Blue Sombrero – the website host, offers a parent portal for support. Please visit their support site first before contacting SWLL. https://tshq-parents.zendesk.com/hc/en-us

It’s my first time playing baseball in Sidewinder Little League; what can I expect?

Having fun and creating memories that last a lifetime! For the spring season, we have an “Opening Day Ceremonies,” usually the first or second Saturday in March to “launch” the season! We do a parade of teams, team pictures, skills competitions, music, bounce houses, and much more!

What is the difference between Fall and Spring Season Baseball?

Spring season is the traditional Little League season. Tryouts are held for Minors and Majors Division selection, the regular season concludes with a divisional tournament, and All Star teams are selected at the end of the season to compete against other local leagues; with the 12’s All Star team having a chance to make it all the way to Williamsport for the Little League World Series!
Fall season is designed for additional player and coach development. It is a shorter season, and players are placed on teams based on the division they sign up for. Currently, SWLL only offers the Minors and Majors Baseball Divisions, and Softball in the Fall.

When does spring season registration open? What are season dates?

Typically, spring season registration opens the first week of December, and closes towards the end of January. The spring season typically runs from early February to mid/late May.

When does fall season registration open? What are season dates?

Typically, fall season registration opens and closes during the month of August. The season is shorter than spring, and usually runs from September to early November.

When are games played?

Typically, each baseball division will play 2 games per week. Under normal scheduling, Minors and Majors divisions play all games during weeknights (5:30 and 7:30 start times), AA and Farm Divisions play one game on a weeknight (usually 5:30), and a game on Saturday each week (times vary).
While we look at options for Softball, we will update as we determine a plan for games this upcoming Spring. This last fall, each softball team played one game per week, on Saturday’s.

When/Where are practices and games?

Usually, teams will have 1-2 practices per week before games start, then 1 practice each week after games begin. SWLL partners with the City of Peoria and Peoria Unified School District for field usage. We leverage fields from Vistancia down to Rio Vista Park and Varney Park in Peoria. We cannot meet preferred practice or game field locations requests.

What are the age groupings for each division?

  • Farm Division Baseball – Little League Ages 6-8
  • AA Division Baseball – Little League Ages 7-10
  • Minors Division Baseball – Little League Ages 8-11
  • Majors Division Baseball – Little League Ages 10-12
  • Coach Pitch Softball – Ages 6-9
  • Player Pitch Softball – Ages 9-11

How do I know my players Little League Age?

Visit the Little League age calculator by clicking the link here to determine your players baseball and softball Little League Age before registering. https://www.littleleague.org/play-little-league/determine-league-age/

What “player documents” am I required to provide my players coach?

Little League International requires a number of different documents be provided to the coach and league to prove age and league boundary residency. These are required of all players. Typically, this will include; copy of driver’s license, copy of utility bill, copy of mortgage/rent statement. We require a copy of birth certificate for proof of age, and all parents must complete a medical release form and code of conduct form.

How does the tryout/draft process work for the spring season?

If you sign your player up for the Minors (ages 8-11) or Majors (ages 10-12) division, they must attend tryouts, which are typically held in early February. After tryouts, the managers conduct a draft and select players for their teams from the eligible player lists typically within one week. The AA and Farm divisions do not hold tryouts.

What happens if my player is not drafted to a Minors or Majors Division team in the spring, even though I signed them up in that division?

If you signed your player up for the Majors division and attended tryouts, and they were not drafted – they will be eligible for the Minors division draft. If they are not then drafted to a Minors team, or you signed your player up for the Minors division and attended tryouts, and they were not drafted to Minors, they are placed onto a AA division team.

Do you offer Softball?

Yes, SWLL is trying to launch softball in partnership with other leagues and began play in the fall of 2019. Please continue to visit the site for updates on spring 2020 info.

Do you offer baseball for players Little League age 13-16?

Little League Age 13 and 14 year olds play in the “Juniors” division, and Little League Age 15 and 16 year olds play in the “Seniors” division. SWLL typically does not have enough registrations in these age groups to field our own teams and divisions. We combine with other leagues in the area to offer a spring season for these age groups. Because of this, we cannot guarantee when the season will start, or where practices are held. Typically, games will start in April, and practices are held in another league’s boundary based on a lack of field availability in SWLL boundaries.

What does my registration fee cover?

The league has many costs for running successful seasons; field fees, uniforms, umpire fees, equipment (baseballs, catchers gear, bases, pitching mounds, etc) which are all included as part of registration fees.

How are rosters built? Do you do friend and coach requests?

In the Spring Season, Minors and Majors baseball teams and rosters are built via a tryout and draft – so there are no friend or coach requests. Farm and AA baseball divisions can leverage friend and coach requests. During Fall Season, Minors and Majors divisions can leverage friend and coach requests. Softball is TBD.

What is included as part of the uniforms?

All players and coaches receive a jersey and hat. Parents are responsible for securing belts, pants and socks. Coaches decide the color combo based on the team colors. For example, the Orioles may have orange belts, white pants, and orange socks to go with the orange jersey and hat.

I’m interested in coaching, what do I do?

We rely on volunteer coaches to create the best experience possible for the players and parents. We are always looking for parents that are interested in coaching. We have tools to help you build practice plans, and provide you with equipment for the season. We would love to you hear from you. Please reach out to our Chief Player Agent (contact info on the website under “Board of Directors”)

Does the league do fundraising?

Yes! To keep registration costs at the level we hope to during the spring, the league does do fundraising to offset some operations costs and also reinvest in equipment, etc. – back into the league. All players participate in fundraising efforts.

What are Sidewinder Little League’s boundaries? How do I know if I am signing up for the right Little League?

Please visit the link on the website to view our boundary lines. You can also use Little League website to enter your address and identify the league in you which you align.

How does All Stars work? What is the commitment?

All Star teams are selected at the end of the regular season to represent Sidewinder Little League at district tournaments. SWLL usually fields a number of teams in different age divisions. All Star Teams usually start practices June 1st (ish) and depending on how far teams advance in tournaments, can play through June, July, and potentially August.
