Dear parents of Pop Warner Football athletes,
As you may have seen, in August 2019 the Korey Stringer Institute (KSI) released high school sports safety policy rankings for all 50 states. Unfortunately, Colorado came in last based on our state’s high school sports safety guidelines as regulated by Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA).
Despite this low rank, we want to assure you that the benefit of partnering with Children’s Hospital Colorado’s Sports Medicine Center means that your child’s football program with Pop Warner meets and often exceeds these national KSI standards.
We are committed to the following safety protocols:
-
Heat illness prevention methods, including water immersion tubs on site
-
Annual concussion training for coaches
-
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) on site
-
Appropriate medical care by certified athletic trainers (ATs)
-
Emergency Action Plans (EAPs)
The safety of all kids playing sports is of the utmost importance, and we will continue to partner with CHSAA to help move many of the guidelines and recommendations into active policies. Please don’t hesitate to contact our team with any questions.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership,
Jay C. Albright, MD | Surgical Director, Sports Medicine Center
Aaron J. Provance, MD | Medical Director, Sports Medicine Center
Bridget Younger, MEd, ATC | Program Manager, Sports Medicine Center
