We Honor the Game!

We Honor the Game!

Welcome to the Coach’s Corner!

As coaches, you play an essential role in the Healdsburg Little League experience. Through your dedication, guidance, and passion, you help shape not only skilled baseball players but also confident, respectful young people who learn the values of teamwork, resilience, and respect. Thank you for being a part of our coaching team and for helping us create a positive, fun, and safe environment for every player to thrive.

Coaches’ Mission Statement

Our mission is to inspire young athletes through the game of baseball by teaching both skills and character. As coaches, we commit to the Positive Coaching Alliance principles, creating a supportive environment where players feel valued, encouraged, and motivated to grow. We aim to model and instill qualities such as respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Our goal is to foster a love for the game in each player, helping them develop not just as athletes but as individuals who embrace challenges, celebrate progress, and always play with integrity. Together, we’re building champions on and off the field.

Completing Volunteer Coaching Requirements

Completing Your Coaching Volunteer Requirements

Thank you for stepping up to coach in our league! To ensure the safety and success of all players, all Little League coaches must complete the following requirements:

  1. Volunteer Application: Submit the Little League Volunteer Application along with a valid photo ID.
  2. Background CheckAll applicants must undergo an annual background check as required by Little League. Please note that this process is confidential—no one in the league will have access to your personal information. The system only returns an "all clear" report or flags any concerns requiring follow-up.
    • For the JDP Background Check: Email John Filben at [email protected] to request the link. John will initiate the request to the email address you provide, and you will receive an automated email from JDP to complete the process directly.
  3. Abuse Awareness TrainingComplete the mandatory Abuse Awareness Training Course through the Little League International portal.
    • Note: This training is no longer hosted on the USA Baseball platform. You will need to create a Training Portal Login. Be sure to select "Healdsburg Little League" as your league so we automatically receive a report of your completed training.
  4. Concussion Training: Finish the free CDC HEADS UP Concussion Training to learn how to recognize and respond to concussion symptoms.

Once you’ve completed these steps, please submit all required documentation to John Filben, our Safety Officer, at [email protected].

Thank you for helping us create a safe, positive environment for our players!

Youth Baseball Skills Matrix

The Youth Baseball Skills Matrix is a comprehensive and detailed timeline that outlines the appropriate age to introduce new skills and concepts to players of all stages. The matrix is broken down into the same four stages of development introduced in USA Baseball’s Athlete Development Model. The four stages are Activate, Discover, Progress, and Develop. The Youth Baseball Skills Matrix covers necessary skills and team concepts that a coach would need to fully progress a young player through their developmental needs. It will break down each component of the game to help make the teaching process all-inclusive. Included are outlines that offer practice construction concepts and time allotment for each practice segment. As you will see, some skills and concepts are ongoing. They should be focused on from a very young age and continue to be refined throughout the player’s career. It should be noted that every skill, concept, and situation doesn’t need to be repeated at every practice. The Youth Baseball Skills Matrix outlines what should be completed daily and what areas can be supplemented during a week or season.

Little League Rulebook App

The Rulebook app contains the Official Regulations, Playing Rules, and Operating Policies for all divisions of Baseball, Softball, and Challenger in one location. The app includes all three rulebooks, exclusive rule interpretation videos, automatic updates for future seasons and is approved for use in the dugout!
