The mission of the Police Athletic League of Clay County, Inc. (Clay PAL) is to work together with our community to prevent juvenile crime and violence by building the bond between law enforcement officers and children. The Police Athletic League of Clay County, Inc. is a youth athletic program managed by members of Clay County Sheriff's Office Juvenile Crime Section and by dozens of volunteers.

For tackle football and cheerleading, Clay PAL belongs to the national Pop Warner Little Scholars organization.  Pop Warner is a youth sports organization that is focused on SAFETY above all, which is why our football divisions have age and weight requirements.  All volunteers for tackle football and cheerleading have passed thorough background checks and extensive training courses, including USA Football Heads Up Certifications.  Several volunteers on each football team and cheerleading squad are CPR and First Aid Certified.  Additionally, Pop Warner recognizes student athletes for their accomplishments at school.  Pop Warner participants can receive awards, be invited to special banquets, and even can receive scholarship money for when they attend college.  Our Clay PAL participants have received over $20,000 in scholarship money from the Pop Warner organization so far!  Pop Warner also mandates that every football player and cheerleader will participate in every event.  No one sits the bench in our programs!!

Our regular season practices are held at Ronnie Van Zant Park (on Sandridge Rd. in the Lake Asbury area of Green Cove Springs) and our home football games are hosted at Walter Odum Park in Orange Park.  The regular football season consists of a Jamboree, four home games and four away games.  Games are scheduled on Saturdays and times can vary.  The season officially begins on August 1st.  Practices for the first few weeks of the season are typically 4-5 nights per week (in order to complete the required conditioning hours) and then most teams cut down to 3-4 practices per week after Labor Day (maybe even less for the younger teams).  The regular season runs into mid-October, and the older teams (Mitey Mite, Jr. Pee Wee and Pee Wee) may have an opportunity to play in the Conference playoffs depending on their divisional record.  Conference playoffs are usually held in late October, and Regional playoffs and National playoffs can run into November and December, respectively.

Cheerleaders will cheer on the sidelines for all home and away football games during the regular season.  All cheer teams will also compete at the District Competition which is usually in late October, and if the older teams (Jr. Pee Wee, Jr. Varsity and Varsity) place high enough they could also move onto Regional and National competitions in November and December, respectively.

The cost this season is $200 for tackle football (ages 5-12).  For cheerleading, the cost is $235 (ages 5-9) and $275 (ages 9-16).  We offer a sibling discount for families who register multiple children with the same address.  The first child will be full price, and then the $25 discount will be automatically applied to your second, third, fourth, etc. child when you check out.  For all programs, we require a $50 deposit for each child at the time of registration, and all balances must be paid in full by June 30th.  Cheerleaders who have a properly fitting uniform from last season and do not wish to order a new uniform will receive a reduced registration fee.  Cheerleaders who have a backpack from last season that is still in good condition can also receive a reduced registration fee if they do not wish to order a new one.  Due to jersey number changes, we are unable to offer a reduced registration fee for returning football players at this time.

Football registration includes a full uniform that players will keep after the season - game jersey (with the player's last name on the back), football pants with integrated pads, game day socks, and a compression shirt.  A helmet and set of shoulder pads will be provided to each player by Clay PAL at no additional cost, but these items must be returned at the end of the season.  Cheerleading registration includes the following items (all of which the cheerleaders keep at the end of the season):  a custom-fitted uniform, two hair bows, a custom competition hair bow, cheer shoes, two practice outfits, and an embroidered backpack.  Cheerleaders in the older divisions (Jr. Pee Wee, Jr. Varsity and Varsity) will also receive a body liner to wear underwear their uniform at competitions and keep at the end of the season.
