Multi-Sport Athletes

Multi-Sport Athletes Have a Competitive Advantage
If you currently play another sport and have a desire to play lacrosse during the spring, we encourage you to join our club.  It is common for players who excel in a sport to get pressure from parents and coaches to stay focused on just one sport.  However, numerous sources (HERE, HERE, and HERE just to name a few) show that early specialization can lead to overuse injuries and burnout, and there are many lessons and skills to be learned from other sports.  Despite the rapid growth of lacrosse creating more opportunities to play the sport year-round, US Lacrosse strongly advocates that young players continue to pursue playing other sports as well and the Kingsport Knights also prescribe to this philosophy as well.

If you are interested in playing lacrosse or are the parent of a child wanting to join our club and there is a coach or other authority figure who is apprehensive of the child participating in lacrosse, it may be worth sharing the articles linked above.  In addition, you may want to remind them that some of the best athletes in history have been multi-sport athletes who played lacrosse.  This list is expansive but most notably includes well-known Hall-of-Famers Jim Brown (NFL Champion - Cleveland Browns) and Brendan Shanahan (3x Stanley Cup Champion - Detroit Red Wings), as well as future Hall-of-Famer Steve Nash (NBA MVP - Phoenix Suns).  The most recent example of a professional athlete who also excelled on the lacrosse field is Chris Hogan, a member of the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.
