Sunset Little League Outlines 2021 Season Plan

Phase One: Registration, and Team Formations – Ongoing

Registration:  Our online registration is currently open and will be conducted solely online to avoid any unnecessary complications with current COVID-safe practices guidelines and current state restrictions.  Assistance will be provided as needed pertaining to questions regarding registration, coaching and volunteering, and any other inquiries our membership may have.  Registration will be closing on March 12th and a waiting list will be available at that time for all of those looking to join our league.  Additional registrations will be based upon roster vacancies.

Registration Fees:  All registrations will require a $25 deposit to secure a roster spot for your player, with any and all additional registration fees deferred until confirmation of additional phases.  We do not want our members to enter into a large financial commitment for a season that is still developing based upon the guidance, guidelines, and restrictions dictated by our state and local governments.  However, your initial deposit will facilitate league startup costs.  We anticipate additional payments will be necessary as the length of the program progresses.

Team Formation:  Teams will be populated unconventionally, with considerations toward coaching recruitment, requests for coaches and player pairings, and previous team affiliations.  The league is still unable to guarantee that all accommodations will be met; however, all efforts will be made to provide the ideal circumstances for our developing season.  Teams will consist of approximately 10-12 players, 2 assistant coaches, and 1 team manager.

Phase Two: Team Practices and Scrimmages – Mid March

Initial Practices:  Due to mass gathering restrictions, coaches will be encouraged to divide players into smaller skill groups.  The assigned coaches will be charged with conducting assigned drills and tasks for that practice, as well as ensuring compliance with mask mandates, social distancing guidelines, and any and all additional protocols established by Sunset Little League.

Full Team Practices:  As restrictions allow, the league will begin implementing integrated team practices that will permit all players to practice together as a team.  The team managers and coaches will remain responsible for compliance of any revised guidelines.

Scrimmages:  In an effort to get the feel of gameplay as a team, structured scrimmages will be permitted as additional learning and teaching players.  This will assist in sharpening skills, both individually and as a team, and provide a more enjoyable experience.  The team managers and coaches will remain responsible for compliance of any revised guidelines.

Phase Three: Season Games and Tournaments – Mid April

Season Games:  As restrictions allow, Sunset Little League will move to resume scheduled gameplay and season competition.  This may be impacted by COVID-safe practices and restrictions, but the ultimate goal is to facilitate season gameplay for our members with a minimum of 12 games per team.

Interleague Play:  Due to the size of our smaller populated divisions in both Softball and Baseball, the District will work to facilitate interleague play between leagues to allow teams to have normal competitive play as restrictions allow.

Tournaments:  As regular season gameplay nears completion, just like many seasons before this, the league will structure end-of-season tournaments for teams to complete.  We have also been notified that Little League International does intend on resuming their Annual All-Star Tournaments and we fully intend on providing that opportunity to our players as well.
