2020 CELL Baseball Season Updates

Cranston East Little League,

I hope this update finds you safe and healthy! I know it has been awhile since our last update, but we wanted to wait until we had anything concrete, as there is enough speculation and misinformation in the world already.

The first bit of news came on Friday from the CEO of Little league, and it was both heartbreaking and hopeful in the same breath. The heartbreak is for those 12U’s all over the world that have worked hard for a chance to play on TV in Williamsport, and in a year of missed graduations, weddings and other milestones this one breaks our hearts. The hope came when LL informed us of their desire to have a season of some sort in 2020 and the board has been planning for this hope all along.

First steps:

1. Keep following the guidelines from the State. Maintain the stay at home order, to the best of your ability, until hopefully May 8th.

2. Start or continue to do as much baseball at home as you can. Throwing, conditioning, strength training, anything to stay active and ready

3. Keep an eye out for updates from CELL Board

What we are doing as a Board:

1. Keeping in touch with LL and the State to monitor a possible window for a start time

2. Game planning various iterations of a season based of different start times

3. Looking into State level tournaments for a facsimile of an All Star season.

4. Fundraising to help defer the costs as much as possible for those in need.

5. Brainstorming mitigation methods for players and spectators.

Last pieces:

1. Governor all clear in terms of youth sports. Any start time is wholly reliant on our State allowing it. We may see other States start before us, but CELL will not begin any baseball operations until the State approves it.

2. Some sort of tryout and draft will need to take place
