Spring Season Delayed

Dear SCLL Players and Parents,

As you may have heard from the Governor’s address last week, youth organized sports are not permitted to play or practice under the current Yellow Phase.  In addition, the Parks & Recreation fields as well as other local fields have stated that they are closed to organized activity until at least July 1.  Due to this information, the SCLL Board of Directors have made the difficult decision to officially delay our spring season until July 1 (or until we enter the Green Phase and are permitted to play by state and local officials).

We really had hoped that we would be able to return safely to the fields and salvage some kind of a spring season, however, it is just not possible.

As you may or may not be aware, a significant amount of time and resources has already gone into planning for this season.  As a result, State College Little League has incurred roughly $20,000 in unrecoverable expenses related to the Spring Little League season.  These expenses relate to items including, but not limited to, Little League International charter fees, insurance, uniforms, tryout facilities, utilities and field maintenance.

In these unprecedented times, we understand that the financial situations we face vary largely from family to family.  To that extent, SCLL is offering three options with regard to previously paid 2020 Spring registration fees.

Option 1.     Full Refund for the Spring Season
Option 2.     Full Refund less a participant-designated portion donated* to SCLL
Option 3.     Full donation* to SCLL

*SCLL is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, and as such, all donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Please use this link to access our refund/donation form to choose one of the options above.  In addition, if we do not hear from you by June 1, you will be automatically issued a full refund for the spring season.

We will begin mailing refund checks in the near future.  With over 800 players enrolled in the league, it may take time for checks to be written and mailed but our Board is dedicated to getting this done in a timely manner.   We are also awaiting hope that our online system may soon have a function to refund credit cards, but that option is not available as of today.

We share your frustrations related to the delay of the 2020 Spring Little League season.  While we all love SCLL and the opportunities it provides to the children in our community, our first and foremost responsibility is to ensure the safety of all SCLL participants and their families.  When appropriate, SCLL will be back and better than ever!  Once we are given the green light to begin a new season, we will work swiftly to open registration back up and do everything in our ability to get the kids on the fields as quickly and safely as possible.

Stay safe and keeping working on those baseball and softball skills!

Sincerely,
State College Little League Board of Directors
