OPAA to cease activity during the Covid-19 national emergency
An email sent to Orange Park Athletic Association members was sent today regarding the action necessary to keep all members of the organization safe during this time.
President, Mandi Herndon, said the following in a statement emailed to the membership:
"OPAA has been closely following Governor DeSantis, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and the WHO (World Health Organization) as they navigate COVID-19 and what that means for us. The CDC has recommended that all events expecting a crowd of 50 or more individuals should be immediately cancelled.
Certain County sponsored events have been suspended at this time. Officials from the Town of Orange Park have communicated to us that the county has not closed parks or athletic associations for activity. However, we at OPAA feel that the promotion of health and well-being for all our families is a top priority and therefore, will also be suspending all park related activity until further notice.
All OPAA teams have ceased games, practices and other activities at this time. As a board, we will continuously monitor the situation, and should activities continue, you will be notified. Currently, our goal is to work together to reschedule missed events for the season."
The email goes on to state "As always, you may reach out to us at any time. Please be mindful that during a time of confusion and transition, we may not have an immediate answer for you. Give us all the grace we need as we also learn how to manage this unique situation. We look forward to seeing you all soon, as our park family and thriving atmosphere will be very much missed during this time. "
