Community Recreation Update

Saugatuck Community Recreation Update. Bringing people together and having crowds of people in the gyms and on the fields, is great for our community. Unfortunately it is really bad during a pandemic. We need to follow the orders of the state and the guidelines of the MHSAA in order to keep our community healthy and safe. As long as you practice social distancing you should get out and be active. Take your family to the park, use the baseball/softball, soccer, football fields etc. responsibly.

As far as recreation programing goes ,there will be nothing scheduled for the month of June. I was hoping for a miracle, but things like Little League, swimming lessons and tennis lessons are impossible to do with the required 6ft social distance rule and the issue of sharing equipment like a baseball. We are also prohibited from using any indoor spaces like gyms. So no basketball camps that normally take place in June. I am working on a few things for the month of July that will be possible once we set up the appropriate safety procedures. Track camp, soccer camp, golf lessons, outdoor yoga and outdoor bootcamp are in the planning stages. I am also working on the possibility of adding some disk golf baskets to Schultz Park!

Fall soccer and football: Hard to say what life will be like in August but we are planning on playing as of now. Sign up will start July 6th.

It does feel good to start the opening up process but we do need to take it slow and be extra cautious. Lets keep on track and be in a good position at the end of summer, so we can play again!

Take care and stay healthy.
