Falmouth Little League Softball Age Divisions

Notes:

League Age for Softball is defined by the players age on December 31st of the calendar year prior to the current season year. So, the age of your child on Dec 31st, 2023. If your child was 8 on Dec 31st, 2023, they are league age 8 (yes, even if they turn 9 the next day). You may find a visual aid here.
Playing up (playing in a division older than the league age indicates) is permitted in certain circumstances, but is primarily found for League Age 8 players, or 3rd graders, advancing to the AAA/Minors division. Generally, the player would have needed to play in the lower division (or AA) for at least one season, and would need to be skilled enough to play with the older division (player pitch) without issue.
Playing up from AAA/Minors to Majors is not permitted unless tryouts for skilled 5th graders are announced, or unless a player has exceptional skill or size that could cause harm to other players in the AAA/Minors division.
Playing down (playing in a division lower than the league age indicates) is permitted in certain circumstances, but is most common when parents think a player (usually league age 9) is not ready for the older division (usually AAA/Minors) and would benefit from another learning season in a lower division (usually AA).
Playing down is not permitted from Majors to AAA/Minors except for exceptional circumstances

AA Softball

League Age 6+7+8
Coach Pitch League for all 1st and 2nd grade players
Coach pitch league includes underhanded coach pitches, and focuses on teaching players to hit and field. Players progress through rules, starting with no base-outs, and no strike outs, and learning about and integrating those rules as the season progresses.
Players also have the option to play AA baseball
Players who are in kindergarten and younger should sign up for Tee Ball in the Falmouth Little League Baseball program.

AAA/Minors Softball

League Age 9+10
Modified Player Pitch League for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders
Modified Player Pitch begins with players pitching (everyone has the opportunity unless they opt-out), and might include coaches stepping in to pitch in lieu of walking the batter. This division plays a catcher, and introduces stealing the bases and stealing home throughout the season. This season ends in a town playoff.
League age 8 players are eligible to play up at the AAA/Minors level provided they are experienced enough to handle player-pitch softball.
Some 5th graders may be eligible to try out for Majors Division, but only if try-outs are needed and announced.
There is a Minors level All Stars Team playing in June

Majors Softball

League Age 11+12
Player Pitch League for 5th, 6th and 7th graders, or league age 11 through 12
Players League age 10 and under must play AAA/Minors softball unless called up for selection/tryouts by softball administration
There is a Majors level All Stars Team playing in June

Juniors Softball

League Age 13+14 (can be 15 if they turned 15 on or after Jan 1, 2024)
Player Pitch League
June and July season culminating in All Stars
Registration begins in May

Falmouth Little League Baseball and Tee Ball 2024

Falmouth Little League Baseball and Tee Ball Age Divisions - All divisions other than Juniors Baseball start in the last week of April or first week of May and finish by the middle of June

4 Year Old Tee Ball (Saturday mornings from 10-11:00 - for players who are or will turn 4 years-old by 8/31/2024)

5-6 Tee Ball program (Choose Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday Schedule for kids who turn 5-years old before 8/31/2024)

Tee Ball games typically start at 5:30 and last between 1-1.5 hours

***Note that Tues-Thurs Tee ball is currently full, but we still have spots available for Mon/Wed

***Please consider volunteering to coach for all T Ball ages. We need at least three coaches per team of no more than 6-8 players, and often don't have enough. We will offer coach training, so you don't need to be experienced. If we are struggling to get coaches, players will have to be put on wait-lists if available teams are filled.***

7-8 AA Baseball – Coach Pitch League for 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls (girls also have option to play AA softball)

Game schedule varies week to week, but typically includes 2-3 games per week either Mon-Fri starting at 5:30-6:00 and/or Saturday mornings.

9-10 AAA Baseball – Player Pitch League for All 3rd graders and most 4th graders (10 year-old 4th graders may try out for Majors)

Game schedule varies week to week, but typically includes 2-3 games per week either Mon-Fri starting at 5:30-6:00 and/or Saturday mornings.

10-12 Majors Baseball - Player Pitch League for All 5th and 6th graders and talented 4th graders selected at tryouts

Games are weekday nights, starting at either 5:15 or 7:00 (under lights) and are scheduled to avoid conflicts with lacrosse. There are limited games on weekends,

although rain make-up games may be scheduled for the weekend.

** Majors baseball is full and no additional registrations are being accepted.

13-14 Juniors Baseball – Travel team for ALL 7th graders and some 6th graders who turn 13 before August 31, 2024 (Games vs other towns in Cumberland County begin in June after the Falmouth Middle School Baseball team completes its season)
